James: Feel really bad for Liverpool fans tonight, must be so depressing to have no chance of winning anything this season except the Premier League.

Tez: Liverpool players after the first leg kept talking about the Anfield atmosphere as the trump card but Atletico didn't care, it was never going to affect them.

With last year's finalists Tottenham and Liverpool out, and Chelsea all but, there's a lot of hope for the Premier League riding on Manchester City now.

They play Real Madrid on Tuesday 17 March - as it stands.

Matt: I've just watched three handshakes between Liverpool and Atleti players. What's the point in the handshake rule at the start of the game if players and managers just forget at the end?

David: Impressive defence throughout from Athletico earned them the chance to win but in the end, both legs came down to two keepers with contrasting fortunes.

Atletico Madrid had just 28% of the ball this evening. It was a massive performance in terms of organisation and and discipline.

Liverpool lost their long unbeaten home record as well as this tie... the Kop are still behind them, though, singing "We shall not be moved".

The rest of the stadium is almost two-thirds empty of home fans but the ones who have stayed are applauding the team off.

Liverpool had 34 efforts on goal tonight. Jan Oblak made eight saves.

Atleti went from not looking likely to score at all to scoring three times in 23 extra-time minutes.

Liverpool have just run out of gas. Across the whole season, too. They've gone out of the FA Cup and the League Cup and they're on a losing streak.

Lets not forget the fact that they were the better team throughout the 90 minutes, but when they needed to turn up the gas at the end there was nothing left in the tank.

The home fans sing out their love for this Liverpool team as Jurgen Klopp applauds the Kop. A few players, on both sides, look a bit stunned.

Atletico Madrid looked all but out when Bobby Firmino's header put Liverpool up in extra time but they have rebounded in sensational style.

Liverpool, the holders, are out. They just ran out of gas and it's Diego Simeone who can celebrate wildly with his players.

A ripple of polite applause rings out around Anfield. The Premier League title is incoming but the kings of Europe have been dethroned here.

I didn't see this end coming when Roberto Firmino scored at the start of extra time. It's down to walking pace now.

There doesn't seem to be a spark out there right now. I expected this half to be mayhem, with Liverpool charging out and putting on the pressure but that hasn't happened. They're leaving it very late now.
