Today's results have done little damage to Livingston's chances of finishing in the top six.

Kilmarnock and St Johnstone are now six points adrift, although the Perth side have a game in hand, with midfielder Marvin Bartley confident his fifth-placed side are in a good position.

"We are in control of our own destiny," he tells BBC Scotland. "We do play Kilmarnock and we do play St Johnstone.

"It is good to have a gap, but if we do beat those teams, it will put us in a good position to finish in the top six, which would be a remarkable achievement for the club.

"Because, among most pundits, we were relegation favourites."

Celtic manager Neil Lennon tells BBC Scotland he "wasn't happy" with Kilmarnock's goal, scored from the penalty spot by Eamonn Brophy, in his side's 3-1 win.

"I thought Eamonn was offside," he says. "But our reaction to that was fantastic. It was a real magnificent performance. I thought we were outstanding.

"To be fair to Alex Dyer, he went with two strikers. But we dealt with that very well.

"I said to the players 'don't think it's easy what you're doing'. It's important we keep the momentum going."

St Johnstone now head for next Sunday's Scottish Cup quarter-final against holders Celtic in fine mood and striker Stevie May says it comes at an ideal time.

"It is going to be a big one," he tells BBC Scotland.

"It is obviously going to be a very tough task - it is going to take our best performance to get something out the game and progress.

"But, if we are ever going to play them in terms of our form, it is going to be now."

St Johnstone striker Stevie May, who scored the equaliser against Rangers, is delighted with the point that puts his side level on points with seventh-placed Kilmarnock with a game in hand.

"We started the game really well, got that lead and I felt we could maybe have got one or two more," he tells BBC Scotland.

"But we knew Rangers would come out strong in the second half and they did, so it is great character for us and it is credit to how well we have been playing that we came back from that and get the draw.

"It is a bit of fortune dropping in the box and I was on the goal-line and it fell nicely for me. We rode our luck, but we had chances before that.

"I think we can start looking up the league rather than looking behind us as we were earlier in the season."

This must have felt horrible for Kilmarnock. After going down to 10 men, they were chasing shadows with Celtic exploiting space all over the park.

The red card, a second yellow for Alan Power, did seem harsh, but it may not have made too much difference. There was something about Kilmarnock’s approach that simply didn’t work and, as the clock ticked, they looked increasingly powerless.

Neil Lennon’s men were asked a question early on. As has become the norm, they answered it emphatically and are overwhelming favourites to go on and retain their league title.

The final whistle concludes what is likely to prove a significant day for Celtic in their relentless pursuit of a ninth consecutive league title.

Despite falling behind to an early Eamonn Brophy penalty, Neil Lennon's side ease to a third straight 3-1 over Kilmarnock this season thanks to goals from Kristoffer Ajer, Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths.

Combined with Rangers' draw earlier in the day away to St Johnstone, Celtic have now stretched their lead over their city rivals to 12 points.

They went into the winter break after a defeat by Rangers only two points ahead and having played a game more. Eight league victories in a row later, they have a commanding lead on points and are 20 goals better off on goal difference. Another title is all but there.
