Leigh Griffiths went just a little early, but it was great play. Celtic really opening Kilmarnock up. They can be so quick and lethal when the opposition think nothing is happening

  2. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 16:30 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2020

    Celtic 3-1 Kilmarnock

Leigh Griffiths thinks he's scored his second of the day as he volleys home from a Greg Taylor cut-back, but the former Kilmarnock left-back is ruled offside.

It comes moments after 18-year-old brother Ally replaces Dario Del Fabro to make his Killie debut.

  4. Kiltie on for Brophypublished at 65mins

    Celtic 3-1 Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock have only won twice at Celtic Park in the league in 83 years and it looks pretty certain that poor run will continue.

Manager Alex Dyer brings off top scorer Eamonn Brophy and sends on midfielder Greg Kiltie, which suggests it is a case of damage limitation now.

Brilliant goal with great build-up play. When you play two strikers, one can come into the number 10 role, which is what happened there with Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths shows great movement to then tap it home. It's unselfish running off the ball and Celtic have that in abundance

GOAL Celtic 3-1 Kilmarnockpublished at 62mins

    Leigh Griffiths

Leigh Griffiths' eighth goal of the season all but certainly puts the game beyond 10-man Kilmarnock.

Ryan Christie makes a fine run to the by-line and his cut-back gives the striker a tap-in from a couple of yards out.

  7. I'm not shocked - Gerrardpublished at 16:18 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2020

    FT: St Johnstone 2-2 Rangers

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard says he is not surprised his side have dropped points for the fourth time in seven matches.

“We weren’t good in the first-half," he tells Sky Sports. "Defensively, I felt nervous, but I’m not shocked and surprised at the outcome of the game because it’s happened too many times of late. From a defensive point of view, we were really disappointing.

"I’m going to have to try and find solutions. I’m going to have to work even harder than we do as a staff to find solutions and get back to the basics of defending.

Centre-half Nikola Katic, in particular, had a poor game in the continued absence of the injured Filip Helander.

"I need Helander back fit sharpish," Gerrard adds. "I need to find solutions because we’re conceding too many goals."

My initial thought is I'm not sure that's a second booking and the referee is very quick to pull his card out

  9. RED CARD Power (Kilmarnock)published at 16:15 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2020

    Celtic 2-1 Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock midfielder Alan Power has already been booked and is shown a second yellow card after a coming together with Celtic full-back Jeremie Frimpong.

Both seemed to be stretching for the ball and that seems a bit harsh on the Irishman.

Odsonne Edouard has another chance to score his second of the day, but the French striker fires wide of the far post from 10 yards.

  12. Postpublished at 50mins

    Celtic 2-1 Kilmarnock

Another chance for Celtic as Leigh Griffiths shoots on the turn 12 yards out and fires through a defender's legs.

  13. Players gave everything - Wrightpublished at 16:06 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2020

    FT: St Johnstone 2-2 Rangers

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright tells BBC Sportsound: "The players gave everything today and put their bodies on the line, defended when they had to and, when you do that, and show moments of quality, you can get a result against anybody.

"The squad, on paper, has the potential to be the best squad I've had and now they're starting to show a good run of form.

"Two defeats in 13 epitomises what they've done. I'm really pleased with them. The players have dug deep, shown a willingness to learn. With that, and hard work, you get rewards."

Kilmarnock's shape in midfield is all wrong since their goal. Celtic are just controlling it, knocking it from side to side. I know there's not a lot of room in there, but the chances were always going to come. Celtic are picking them off now and I can only see them increasing their lead if Kilmarnock keep this shape

  17. HALF-TIME Celtic 2-1 Kilmarnockpublished at 15:46 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2020

As it stands, Celtic are on their way to ending the day having increased their lead at the top of the Premiership to 12 points.

With second-top Rangers having drawn 2-2 away to St Johnstone, Neil Lennon's side have recovered from an early Eamonn Brophy penalty to lead at the break.

Goals from Kristoffer Ajer and Odsonne Edouard are reward for Celtic's first-half dominance since going behind.

    Celtic 2-1 Kilmarnock

    Martin Dowden
BBC Sport Scotland at Celtic Park

Initially, there was doubt around Celtic Park with Eamonn Brophy’s early penalty reinforced by a Kilmarnock rearguard that looked like frustrating the home side.

The pressure has been relieved. Celtic are showing once again they have the ammunition and mentality to get there. Given the patten of the game, it seems unlikely that the visitors will respond.

They’re simply too deep and have no out ball. If they come out then they’re open to being picked off. If this continues, it would seem Celtic will surge further ahead and take advantage of Rangers’ slip earlier.
