'It was expected we get to Hampden'

Aberdeen striker Sam Cosgorve is a happy man.

He tells BBC Scotland: "Amazing. It's what we were here to do. We just wanted to get the result. We're absolutely delighted to get back to Hampden. At a club like Aberdeen you feel that pressure all the time. It was definitely expected that we at least got to Hampden this year."

On scoring yet another penalty, Cosgrove added: "It's just the same routine with penalties every time. I pick a spot and stick to it."

'We were the better team' - Goodwin

St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin tells BBC Scotland he's "extremely disappointed".to go out of the competition.

"Another game I felt we were the better team over the whole piece," he said. "I thought we played the better football, but ultimately Aberdeen have won 2-0. The goals from our point of view are really disappointing.

"The difference between ourselves and Aberdeen was that they defended better. We didn't work Joe Lewis at all, I can't remember him having a save to make. But then I can't remember my keeper having too much either.

"You'd rather take a defeat when you've been played off the park. There was one team trying to play football and one trying to sit in and play on the counter attack."

'All that matters is we're through'

Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson, who scored the opening goal, tells BBC Scotland: "I just seen the space to run into and Matty [Kennedy] found me. I didn't get put under pressure and thought I could get a shot away. I want to add more of that to my game, getting shots away on goal.

"They tend to start games well and we had to match that. I thought we got a wee bit sloppy, we weren't at our best today but it's cup football so all that matters is we're through."

It's the fifth time Aberdeen have reached the Scottish Cup semi-final since Derek McInnes took charge in 2013. Impressive stuff.

Vaclav Hladky guesses right, but Cosgrove's strike is far enough into the corner. The big striker won the penalty himself as Jamie McGrath tripped him.

Sam Cosgrove latches on to a ball through and dinks it towards goal, but it's wide. A good chance for Aberdeen to finish the game and it's about the only clear opportunity of the second half.

Curtis Main goes up like a salmon to attempt to head in Niall McGinn's cross, but he can't reach it.

Then Kyle McAllister puts in another dangerous delivery which can't find anyone in black and white.

Aberdeen bring on midfielder Craig Bryson for Main.

Tony Andreu is on for Ilkay Durmus as St Mirren make their last change. Last throw of the dice.

Joe Lewis is alert to come and snatch a cross as Seifedin Chabbi was lurking.

Aberdeen relish defending these leads, don't they? So compact in the box. St Mirren are pressing as Derek McInnes tries to urge his team up the pitch.

Shay Logan is walking a disciplinary tightrope, already booked and another foul. Another free-kick is headed away again by a man in red.

St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin is going for it now. Deadline day loan-signing Seifedin Chabbi is on up front, while midfielder Cammy MacPherson has gone off.

At least the driving rain has stopped. That’s the plus, but the improvement in the weather hasn’t really helped in terms of the quality of this game.

St Mirren, it's fair to say, are playing better in the second half, but still they can’t find much in the final third. And they need to take advantage of corners when they win them, if they’re to get back into this cup tie.

Aberdeen goalkeeper Joe Lewis again takes command of his area and plucks a free-kick from the skies after Mikey Devlin had fouled Jonathan Obika.

None of the games between these sides this season have been classics and this is no different.

Matty Kennedy has been a bright spark for Aberdeen. He dribbles past about three players before he's crowded out in the box.

Moments later midfielder Funso Ojo screws a shot wide. Curtis Main had words with his teammate, he wanted the pass.

Joe Lewis pushes a long-distance shot from Jamie McGrath to safety. First save the Aberdeen goalkeeper has had to make really.

St Mirren have upped the tempo, as Kyle McAllister's cross is blocked by Shay Logan.

The corner comes in and Dean Campbell clears for Aberdeen. Precious few opportunities in this match. The hosts need a spark.

Basically, Curtis Main's arm is slightly offside. Really close call, but St Mirren survive.
