There has been a lot of debate about Pep Guardiola's handling of the youngster but he is really developing into an effective midfielder.

That's goals in consecutive games for Foden now.

Moving the European Championships back a year might work in his favour.

The goal comes bang before the drinks break. Fine timing.

Burnley will have been happy with their work until Foden's impact. Now they need to regroup, refocus. One goal is something that doesn't force too much of a restructure just yet, but a second goal changes that in a heartbeat.

Absolutely brilliantly done by Phil Foden, he did not have anything else on his mind.

He caught it so well, it is low and maybe you think the goalkeeper has to get to it. He got a hand on it but not so well.

City had most of the play but did not create a huge amount.

It's your classic attack v defence training ground exercise. City have a go, Burnley repel and reset, City come again.

Finally, Burnley get a chance to show what they can do in the opposition half, courtesy of a free-kick just past halfway.

The ball is floated in by Ashley Westwood and nodded well, well wide by James Tarkowski.

City should be in front. Simple as.

They fashion an overload on the right as David Silva carries the ball across the edge of the box before playing in one of the free men - Bernardo Silva - but his effort, at a goal guarded only by Nick Pope, is sliced horribly wide.

Joao Cancelo gets involved again. He fires an effort from range but there's no threat.

Joao Cancelo tries to pick out Sergio Aguero in the middle but his cross is a tad off and easy for one of the group of Burnley players crowding the City striker to head clear.

Nothing for the fake crowd to cheer yet.

Oleksandr Zincheko and Phil Foden have been making the same sort of runs so need to get an understanding going.

City have a chance to fashion something from a free-kick near the right corner of the box. David Silva's radar is faulty, though. He swings his cross over everyone and away from danger. You don't need me to tell you he is better than that.

Well, we've had 10 minutes, but nothing to really report yet. Lots of square balls from City, looking to probe for an opening. Burnley shifting side to side with them, grafting.

Burnley are 4-4-2, but Jay Rodriguez has spent the opening minutes dropping deeper to make a mobile five in midfield, hunting down City players whenever they threaten to make progress up the pitch.

It's gonna be a long, physically-testing night for the Clarets.

The game has started as you would expect - lots of City possession.
