Jon Toral has a crack from a long way out and forces Albion keeper Sam Johnstone to get out a strong arm to turn the ball behind.

  2. CLOSE!published at 56 mins

    West Brom 3-2 Hull

Lovely work down the Albion right presents Matheus Pereira with a chance to shoot from just outside the area, but his strike fizzes narrowly wide of the far post.

  3. Postpublished at 53 mins

    West Brom 3-2 Hull

This has been a breathless start to the second half.

  4. CLOSE!published at 52 mins

    West Brom 3-2 Hull

Hull almost make it 3-3 as Mallik Wilks goes on a quite brilliant individual run. He keeps going all the way in to the box and then just gets off balance right at the end and fires over!

Against his old club! Kamil Grosicki makes sure Hull weren't level for long, as he clips home a neat finish on his first start for the Baggies since leaving the Tigers in January.

This is turning in to a cracking game.

Wow! Hull pull level for a second time today as Mallik Wilks - their hero from Thursday's last-gasp win - heads in an equaliser.

    But, barely a minute later...

    HT: West Brom 2-1 Hull

Seasoned Championship watchers know it is sheer folly to take anything for granted in the second tier of English football.

So, although West Bromwich Albion went into the break at The Hawthorns 2-1 up and well on top, it would be madness to write off Hull City just yet.

The Baggies looked increasingly likely to add to their lead as the chances began to pile up just before half-time.

But the Tigers have already stunned their hosts once with an equaliser, and it should not be forgotten that on their last visit to the West Midlands just eight days ago, Hull shared six goals with Albion's neighbours Birmingham City.

Apart from the burst of canned crowd noise over the loudspeakers when the Baggies score and the unbelievably noisy half-time offerings to the empty ground, there's plenty to play for in the otherwise peace and quiet of Birmingham B71.

    FT: Swansea 2-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Earlier, Swansea beat Sheffield Wednesday to keep their play-off hopes alive.

On-loan Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster scored the opening goal in a 2-1 win but later left the field with an apparent shoulder injury.

Here's what Swansea boss Steve Cooper had to say about it...

  10. FULL-TIME: Middlesbrough 0-1 QPRpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 5 July 2020

Middlesbrough's survival prospects are dented once again by a home defeat. They'll be in the bottom three tonight, even if Hull are beaten at West Bromwich Albion.

Jordan Hugill grabbed the only goal of the game in the first half.

If QPR weren't safe already, those three points should probably do the job. They're now nine above the bottom three.

  11. HALF-TIMEpublished at 45+5 mins

    West Brom 2-1 Hull

That's the end of one of the better halves of football we've seen since the Championship restarted. Plenty of goalmouth action.

The Baggies ended the half really strongly and - as it stands - are on course for the win they so badly crave to boost their promotion hopes.

  12. Postpublished at 45+4 mins

    West Brom 2-1 Hull

Another good Albion move ends with Matheus Pereira having a decent low shot saved.

Then, after a quick counter, Mallik Wilks shoots wide for the visitors from a difficult angle at the other end.

  13. Postpublished at 45+2 mins

    West Brom 2-1 Hull

They're into five minutes of first-half stoppage time at The Hawthorns now and the hosts are peppering the Hull goal.

Appeals for a Middlesbrough penalty... but Britt Assombalonga is deemed to have dived in the box and is given a yellow card.

Five minutes to be added on.

  15. CHANCE!published at 45 mins

    West Brom 2-1 Hull

It probably should by 3-1 to West Brom. After a teasing ball from the left from Kamil Grosicki, Rekeem Harper has space in the area and a glorious chance but scuffs high and wide. He just didn't set himself quite right for it.

  16. Postpublished at 87 mins

    Middlesbrough 0-1 QPR

QPR are doing all they can just to kill the game off, keeping the ball in Boro's half and taking that little bit longer over throw-ins and the like.

It's been a very professional display from Mark Warburton's men, who still lead thanks to Jordan Hugill's first-half goal.

  17. Postpublished at 42 mins

    West Brom 2-1 Hull

It's all West Brom now, with Charlie Austin going close before Filip Krovinovic has a good long-range strike turned around the post.

  18. Postpublished at 81 mins

    Middlesbrough 0-1 QPR

Lukas Nmecha misses a good chance for the hosts, diverting a right-wing cross over the bar. A good connection, just off target.

  19. goal

GOAL: West Brom 2-1 Hullpublished at 37 mins

    Ahmed Hegazi

Ahmed Hegazy heads inImage source, Rex Features

This is some header, with real power on it. From a left-wing corner, defender Ahmed Hegazi rises to put Albion back in front.

It's his first goal since November 2018 and it could be a massive one for the Baggies.

  20. SUBSTITUTION (West Brom)published at 36 mins

    West Brom 1-1 Hull

This could be bad news for West Brom's promotion bid, and it's a real shame for left-back Kieran Gibbs.

He trudges off with an injury. Conor Townsend is on.
