  4. Coming uppublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 15 July 2020

Birmingham v Charlton and Nott'm Forest v Swansea (18:00 BST)

With our two 17:00 BST games both taking a break it's time to turn our attentions to our two games that are just about to get under way.

Birmingham and Charlton are both desperate for points at the bottom of the table, with the Addicks starting the day one point above the bottom three.

Nottingham Forest and Swansea have concerns of a different nature.

A win for the Reds would confirm their place in the play-offs while the Swans need a victory to get their own push for a play-off berth back on track.

  5. HALF-TIMEpublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 15 July 2020

    Bristol City 1-0 Stoke

It's half-time in the West Country too, where Bristol City have given themselves the lead as they bid for a third straight win under caretaker boss Dean Holden.

  6. HALF-TIMEpublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 15 July 2020

    Brentford 1-0 Preston

Job half done for the hosts.

Ollie Watkins' early goal, his 25th of the campaign, means that, as it stands, they're one point behind second-placed West Brom.

It's been lively stuff and Preston have held their own since that early setback.

  7. goal

GOAL: Bristol City 1-0 Stokepublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 15 July 2020

    Filip Benkovic (45+2 mins)

Right on the stroke of half-time the hosts take the lead and you're not likely to see a better finish from a centre-half this summer!

After a corner is initially headed clear, Bristol City keep it alive and the ball is rolled to Filip Benkovic inside the area, around 15 yards out, and he curls a peach of a strike in to the far corner. Not many keepers would save that.

    Bristol City 0-0 Stoke

You would have to search long and hard online to find a riskier pass across a player's own goal than this, from Bristol City's Jamie Paterson. It's hard to belief he's attempted this, and he's really lucky to get away with.

Not far from his own corner flag, constrained by a high Stoke press, he lifts the ball across his own six-yard box, looking for defender Zak Vyner just in front of the Bristol City goal, but Sam Vokes is ready to pounce in the middle! Vokes almost intercepts it but Vyner JUST does enough to ensure the ball goes wide and behind.

There's playing out from the back, and then there's that. Wow. Still 0-0...

  9. Postpublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 15 July 2020

    Brentford 1-0 Preston

    Brentford finding their stride here.

A passing move that went forward and back numerous times ends with Said Benrahma bursting into the area and smashing a shot that Declan Rudd parries away.

  10. Postpublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 15 July 2020

    Brentford 1-0 Preston

    It's Brentford's turn to threaten.

They win a corner, which is half-cleared, before Rico Henry clips in a dangerous ball that Preston do really well to get away.

Bees defender Pontus Jansson then goes down looking for a penalty but there's nothing in it.

Not a great look for the big Swede.

Great save by Brentford goalkeeper David Raya!

Some nice interplay by Preston ends with Ethan Pinnock tripping Alan Browne around 30 yards from goals.

Darnell Fisher has a long run up at it and smashes a fierce effort that Raya does well to turn away.

  12. DISALLOWED GOAL (Bristol City)published at 17:38 British Summer Time 15 July 2020

    Bristol City 0-0 Stoke

    Nahki WellsImage source, Rex Features

The hosts' Nahki Wells has the ball in the net, but the whistle had already gone. Danny Batth had been fouled by Famara Diedhiou in the build-up.

There are just under 10 minutes to go until half-time.

  13. GOOD SAVE!published at 17:36 British Summer Time 15 July 2020

    Bristol City 0-0 Stoke

Stoke's Lee Gregory is played through one-on-one with Daniel Bentley, just on the left of the penalty area at a slight angle, but Bentley makes himself as big as he can and makes a strong save.

It was a similar outcome to when Famara Diedhiou was up against Adam Davies one-on-one at the other end earlier in the half. Both chances went begging, with two bits of good goalkeeping.

  14. Postpublished at 17:35 British Summer Time 15 July 2020

    Brentford 1-0 Preston

Things just not quite clicking for Brentford at the moment.

An attempt at a quick counter breaks down with a slightly overhit pass about 35 yards from the Preston goal.

The visitors have done well after falling behind to that third minute goal from Ollie Watkins.

  15. SUBSTITUTION (Bristol City)published at 17:28 British Summer Time 15 July 2020

    Bristol City 0-0 Stoke

The hosts are forced in to an early change, as defender Nathan Baker has a knock and can't continue.

Zak Vyner comes on as one of their three at the back.

  16. Postpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 15 July 2020

    Brentford 1-0 Preston

    So close to 2-0!

Some neat build-up play ends with Emiliano Marcondes having a couple of bites at it from just outside the area and the second takes a deflection and flies over the bar with Preston goalkeeper Declan Rudd stranded.

That's drinks now. So far, so good for the hosts who are closing the gap on second-placed West Brom to one point as it stands.

  17. Postpublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 15 July 2020

    Bristol City 0-0 Stoke

And they've reached the first-half drinks break at Ashton Gate, on a grey, overcast evening in the West Country.

  18. GOOD SAVE!published at 17:25 British Summer Time 15 July 2020

    Bristol City 0-0 Stoke

Stoke keeper Adam Davies does well to deny Famara Diedhiou, one-on-one, to keep the score at 0-0. Diedhiou was little bit hesitant, just for a split second, and Davies came out strongly to thwart him.

  19. Postpublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 15 July 2020

    Brentford 1-0 Preston

    Little spell of Preston pressure.

They win a free-kick down their right that ends with Ryan Ledson's shot being deflected behind for a corner by Ollie Watkins.

The Bees defence stands up well and clears the set piece.

  20. ouch!

Postpublished at 17:21 British Summer Time 15 July 2020

    Bristol City 0-0 Stoke

Bristol City striker Famara Diedhiou might consider himself a little lucky not to be sent off here, and definitely lucky not to be at least shown a yellow card.

He goes in pretty recklessly on James Chester. There's no malice in it but the technique on the tackle is poor, swiping with his studs off the ground, catching Chester's standing leg. You've seen straight reds for those. A couple of inches either side and it might be a leg-breaker.

However, on the flip side, with the referee's interpretation, it's a challenge you do sometimes only see only lead to a free-kick. And that's the case now. Chester didn't make a meal of it, to be fair. But his team-mates weren't happy.
