  1. Europe on the cards?published at 19:03 British Summer Time 6 July 2020

Who gets a Europa League place this season then? You'll wish you hadn't asked that...

As things stand, Manchester City are banned from European club competitions for breaching Uefa's club licensing and financial fair play regulations, although they have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Their case was held on 8-10 June and the verdict is expected in July.

Should City lose their appeal and finish in the top four, their Champions League spot goes to the fifth-placed team.

England has three Europa League places. One will go to the FA Cup winners (unless they have already qualified for Europe by their league position), and the other two will go to the highest-placed Premier League sides who have not qualified for the Champions League.

So sixth and seventh, and maybe eighth place, will be enough this year. If that Manchester City ban stands.

When Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min combined for Spurs’ consolation goal away at Sheffield United it was the 20th time they had combined for a Premier League goal, only the 12th duo to do so in Premier League history and the third for Spurs, along with Teddy Sheringham and Darren Anderton (27 goals) and Kane and Christian Eriksen (21).

It is only 20 days since the Premier League returned, believe it or not. Feels much longer doesn't it?

Spurs have had the full range so far - a win, a draw and a defeat, while Everton have taken seven points from a possible nine.

At least Harry Kane has started scoring again.

Two Premier League titans, two clubs to have had a change of manager before Christmas, two teams who are under-performing?

    TableImage source, BBC Sport

Everton are definitely on the up under Carlo Ancelotti, Spurs under Jose Mourinho maybe less so, but both clubs would have expected to be higher up than this with six games to go.

    Surely?

All is not totally lost though. A win tonight for either side would keep hopes of European football alive.
