More from Pep Guardiola: "We've qualified for the Champions League which was the minimum requirement for this club. And these players have done it for the last six or seven years.

"We won it on the pitch and hopefully on Monday Uefa will allow these players to play next season.

"They deserve to be in the Champions League."

Man City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports: "I was pleased with everything tonight - the result and the levels we reached. We are now at a good level and are ready to play the last games of the Premier League and in the Champions League.

"We've forgotten the Southampton result (1-0 defeat last Sunday) as we played incredibly well there. Football sometimes is strange. We just didn't score there. We're a team who create a lot of chances and today we converted them."

On Raheem Sterling: "For a long time, he has been getting better. His finishing, his shooting and that's because he trains hard. It's good for us to have him at the end of the season."

On Gabriel Jesus scoring twice in a week after no goals since February: "He fought well. Before he scored, we had been delighted with his performances. Tonight he didn't just get his goal, he made lots of good chances too. It's unbelievable that he's scored."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Graham Potter speaking to Sky Sports: "Man City were too good tonight. We were well beaten by the better team. First half, we were in it a bit and had a couple of opportunities but they have got players that can hurt you everywhere.

"We are disappointed with how we petered out in the second half but it's a big ask to play Liverpool and Man City in the space of four days.

"The manner and timing of the second goal was disappointing. To get in at 1-0 having had a few moments was the aim but that was a killer one. We tried to get a foothold but we couldn't find the answers to them.

"Better teams than us will find it difficult to live with Man City. It's no disgrace from our perspective but we want to put it to bed as quickly as we can and get as many points as we can from the last three games.

"Our job is to improve our team and players as best we can. We've done some things quite well this season but clearly got a lot more to do as well."

I said Sterling is closing in on the 100 mark for Premier League goals- he's actually the closest to reaching that landmark of any current players.

Man City's Raheem Sterling speaking to Sky Sports: "We were disappointed last week to lose at Southampton. We created chances but couldn’t finish. It's great to bounce back with an away win.

"The problem we’ve had this season is creating a lot of chances and last season we finished them. This season we’ve not had the luck but we’re growing and doing things right."

On the best goalscoring season of his career (27 for Man City so far): "The most important thing for me is to add goals to the team. We want to win the FA Cup and the Champions League otherwise these goals don’t mean anything. I need to make sure they count."

On the bizarre third goal: "I tried to flick it over his head and I saw the keeper come out and tried to head it in."

He had a huge grin on his face as he said that.

Raheem Sterling is up to 83 Premier League goals now - one behind Cristiano Ronaldo and level with Chris Sutton and Olivier Giroud.

I like this stat - 17% of the goals conceded by Brighton this season have been scored by Manchester City.

That win secures City's final position as second in the table by the way.
