David Silva is off this summer, maybe Sergio Aguero next. Some rebuild needed. Great run from Kyle Walker now though, skinning his man and putting a cross which is well blocked at the front post.

Paul: Seriously City need sign a new striker. Gabriel Jesus isn't even close to a worthy replacement when Aguero leaves or retires. Everything he does just looks awkward.

Liz Tray: This game is a perfect illustration of why we are 20+ points off Liverpool. We are going to have to buy a striker (pref two) who can finish. Aguero would have had a hat-trick by now and he is leaving at the end of next season. We are nowhere near ready for that

  3. CLOSE!published at 39 mins

    Brighton 0-1 Manchester City

And now it's Brighton who go close. Pascal Gross has it wide left, he looks up and whips in a great ball that Leandro Trossard gets a head to and his back-header flies a yard over the top.

    Brighton 0-1 Manchester City

So close again!Gabriel Jesus is everywhere just now, spinning out of a tackle on the edge of the area and making the right decision, playing it to Riyad Mahrez on his right. The Algerian opens up his body in familiar fashion and curls it in - just wide!

He's convinced that Lewis Dunk got back to make a goal-saving touch on the way but a goal kick is given...

Dr David: Ryan in goal for Brighton is costing them points. Too many goals rolled past him that should have been saved. Very poor positional awareness.

  8. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 36 mins

    Brighton 0-1 Manchester City

That is unlucky though! Kevin de Bruyne a page ahead of everyone, reading a Brighton throw in and stealing it before playing it inside to Gabriel Jesus.

Only one thought on his mind and his shot is deflected up and on to the bar by Lewis Dunk.

    Brighton 0-1 Manchester City

You've got to be there to miss 'em, but he does miss more than his fair share doesn't he? Kevin de Bruyne clips a lovely cross in from the right, Gabriel Jesus is all alone inside the area again but he can only nod it well over the top.

Could have brought that down, he had a lot of time.

    Brighton 0-1 Manchester City

Great football, really is from City, Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling teasing it across the 18-yard line and then teeing up Gabriel Jesus - he hits the drive sweetly but it's well charged down by a blue-and-white striped body.

A second goal would surely seal this.

Brighton come out of the drinks break with a bit of purpose, Leandro Trossard jinks past Rodri with a fine piece of skill and then he tries a curler but puts it well wide.

That's Raheem Sterling's 29th goal of the season for club and country - that season goes back a long way now. Nearly a full year.

Pretty much straight from the restart Benjamin Mendy is played inon the overlap, he puts his head down and lashes into the side-netting.

    DRINKS.

GOAL - Brighton 0-1 Manchester Citypublished at 20:21 British Summer Time 11 July 2020

    Raheem Sterling (21 mins)

    That is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

Gabriel Jesus flicks the ball on to Raheem Sterling on the left of the attack, he opens up the angle and before Brighton can even sense the danger he's flashed a low shot past Mat Ryan and into the corner from 20-ish yards.

    Deadly!

It's a familiar pattern, Manchester City have had 70% of the ball and four efforts on goal in the opening 20 minutes - none on target yet though.

    Brighton 0-0 Manchester City

Immaculate ball from Riyad Mahrez finds Raheem Sterling, he looks up and finds Benjamin Mendy on the edge of the area. His shot deflects narrowly wide.

From the corner, Eric Garcia gets a touch on it and the ball squirts inches wide...

Jay Perry: I know many Brighton fans who won’t relax until they are mathematically safe but, with superior goal difference they are effectively 9 point clear of the drop zone. Can’t see Bournemouth or Villa picking up 10 or 11 points from a possible 12.

Brighton defending well, and they're having to. Rodri wins the ball back for City and sparks an attack, Bernardo Silva's cross is well cut out at the back stick.
