We stayed with it and you can always say that about an NI team, that they will give 100%. They got their reward and now their confidence will rise. The fact we have got that from that performance, away from with home at 10-men, should lead to good things. Peacock-Farrell was brilliant and it was as good a performance in goal since Michael McGovern against Germany in the Euros.

Groan. Lousy performance and fortunate draw. Square pegs in round holes didn't work. Scotland so passive. A nothing display. Had higher hopes, I have to admit...

  8. CLOSE!published at 90 mins

    Romania 1-1 Northern Ireland

So close again for Romania! Bodies in the area, a cross half cleared and then Alex Maxim hooks it wide.

NI digging in now. The end is in sight and coming back to draw this with 10 men will be a formidable achievement.

  11. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 87 mins

    Romania 1-1 Northern Ireland

Terrific end to this game, and it's yet another wonder save from Bailey Peacock-Farrell. Denis Alibec rolls his defender wide on the left of the penalty area, cracks in a rising shot that thumps the bar and is cleared away.

The replay shows the Burnley keeper go a feather of a touch on to it. Brilliant again!

  12. goal

GOAL - Romania 1-1 Northern Irelandpublished at 21:29 British Summer Time 4 September 2020

    Gavin Whyte (86 mins)

Out of nothing! The 10 men of Northern Ireland have pulled level! My word they have some spirit in this team don't they? Superb.

Kyle Lafferty heads on a deep free-kick, Romania go to sleep at the far post and Gavin Whyte steams in to plant a header into the back of the net.

  13. CLOSE!published at 85 mins

    Romania 1-0 Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland have barely managed to threaten at all this evening but Paddy McNair puts in a brilliant ball from the right - it snakes between the diving keeper and the fast arriving Kyle Lafferty. Unlucky!

  14. GREAT SAVE!published at 80 mins

    Romania 1-0 Northern Ireland

Well that's another one! What a save that is, George Puscas again the man denied. He rattles in a shot from about eight yards out and Bailey Peacock-Farrell makes a blinder of a one-handed save.

  15. Postpublished at 80 mins

    He certainly has.

Meanwhile, Albania have increased their lead away to Belarus and are 2-0 up.

    Romania 1-0 Northern Ireland

    John O'Neill
Former Northern Ireland defender on BBC Radio Ulster

    Quote Message

The passes are not crisp and are too easy to intercept. They are still putting in a shift but that is what you expect from any Northern Ireland team. The players are tired now and we aren't picking their players up.

  18. goal

GOAL - Scotland 1-1 Israelpublished at 21:17 British Summer Time 4 September 2020

    Eran Zahavi

The Israeli goal machine is at it again! Poor defending but a wonderful strike as Israel score from a throw-in. The ball comes to Eran Zahavi, who manages to work a quick one-two and then absolutely thump the ball into the roof of the net.

That's 11 goals in his last nine caps!

  19. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 72 mins

    Romania 1-0 Northern Ireland

    How is this still 1-0?

Corry Evans nearly manages a beauty of an own goal, sliding in to cut out a dangerous cross and thumping the ball against his own post.

After 17-year-old Jude Bellingham scored for England Under-21s earlier, his Borussia Dortmund team-mate Erling Braut Haaland has just bagged his first senior goal for Norway.

It was a wonderful effort as well, Haaland unleashing a powerful close-range shot into the bottom right corner.

Will Norway complete the comeback? They trail Austria 2-1 with around 17 minutes left.
