  1. 'We respect Romania'published at 19:34 British Summer Time 4 September 2020

Romania v Northern Ireland (19:45 BST)

Northern Ireland boss Ian Baraclough: "There is plenty of experience in there but we've brought Daniel Ballard in as well. We've gone for pace and power up front and hopefully we show that.

"Ballard wouldn't be here if he wasn't ready. You've got to test yourself. This is a step up, but he's been training with the Arsenal first team and he has shown no fear.

"We know it will be competitive. We respect the Romania players but I am more interested in ourselves."

Ian Baraclough is Northern Ireland's most successful Under-21 boss and previously managed Sligo Rovers to the League of Ireland title.

He also secured an FAI Cup success and a Setanta Cup triumph as he revived the club's fortunes when he took over in February 2012.

This was followed by a move to Motherwell, where he helped ensure the club's Premiership survival thanks to a two-legged promotion/relegation play-off win over Rangers.

Baraclough has also managed in England at Scunthorpe United, where he finished his playing career, and his CV also includes a spell as an assistant at Oldham Athletic.

Scotland begin their Nations League campaign in the unusual setting of an empty Hampden but against familiar foes Israel.

Both were promoted to Group B after recording a win apiece against one another last time out, while they will meet again next month at Hampden in the European Championship play-off semi-final.

Israel, though, arrive with a new head coach after Andreas Herzog's resignation.

The clash with Romania is the first of eight scheduled fixtures for Ian Baraclough's men between now and mid-November, with four further Nations League matches to follow, plus the crucial Euro 2021 play-off semi-final against Bosnia-Herzegovina in October and a potential final.

Austria join NI, Romania and Norway in League B Group 1, with the group winners gaining promotion and the team which finishes bottom being relegated.

The final positions are also important in the context of seedings for the next World Cup qualifying series.

Northern Ireland failed to register a point from four matches in their inaugural Nations League campaign despite producing some enterprising football as then manager Michael O'Neill trialled a more high tempo, attacking, expansive style of play.
