Man City 1-1 Real Madrid (Agg: 3-2)

Real Madrid are almost architects of their own downfall again as Thibaut Courtois hits his clearance straight at Kevin de Bruyne, who quickly finds Phil Foden but the youngster can't hit the target.

Ironically, it has been a hot day in Manchester today but we've not actually had a drinks break. We've had them when it has been lobbing it down but almost 30 degree heat? Not this time.

    Cristiano Ronaldo (Pen 43 mins)

Of course! Cristiano Ronaldo sends Anthony Lopes the wrong way and sidefoots in his 129th Champions League goal.

Blur on the PA, Juve need another two goals though...

  3. PENALTY to JUVENTUSpublished at 20:42 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

    Juventus 0-1 Lyon (Agg: 0-2)

Here we go! This referee is giving pens tonight. Miralem Pjanic takes a free-kick, it hits Memphis Depay in the wall and the referee gives a penalty for handball!

I'm not sure he could have done much about that!

Man City 1-1 Real Madrid (Agg: 3-2)

It has been a bit of a frustrating evening for Kevin de Bruyne because he has not had as much influence as he perhaps would have liked.

He seemed to have a lot of space in the first 10 minutes but Real Madrid appear to have countered that now and he's not getting much time on the ball.

  5. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:41 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

    Juventus 0-1 Lyon (Agg: 0-2)

Save! Cristiano Ronaldo lines up a free-kick on the edge of the D and instead of his usual rasper he just dinks one, a little curler that is going in until Anthony Lopes flys to his right and pushes it out.

  6. Ramos making his presence feltpublished at 20:40 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Sergio Ramos may be suspended by the great defender is still making his presence felt by shouting a constant stream of instructions and encouragement to his Real Madrid team-mates. Not staying in his seat for for very long either.

Man City 1-1 Real Madrid (Agg: 3-2)

    Dion Dublin

Real Madrid haven't convinced me yet.

In Manchester City's final third, Real come alive. But in the other two-thirds they need to realise they cannot play that slow.

On many occasions so far they've looked sloppy.

Man City 1-1 Real Madrid (Agg: 3-2)

Joao Cancelo cuts inside from the left before whipping a low effort towards goal, the bounce is awkward for Thibaut Courtois and he can only push back into the danger zone but, fortunately for him, Eder Militao is first to the loose ball and clears.

Comunicado Oficial: Benzema: Firmino's general play + Lewandowski's goals. Best on the planet

Matt Kowech: Bale must be writhing in agony after Benzema's goal.

Man City 1-1 Real Madrid (Agg: 3-2)

Oooh, Karim Benzema almost breaks the offside sharp with a smart run but Ferland Mendy is too slow with the pass and Benzema is offside.

Benzema is looking lively, though, and a real danger to the Manchester City defence.

O Cube: what frustrates me about City, they don't kill teams off when they have the advantage.

Nathan House: Can we all just appreciate Rodrygo’s role in that goal? Beat his man, looked up, dinked it plump on Benzema’s noggin’. Textbook.

Ash Williams: Madrid need to target down Cancelo’s side. He looked nervous walking out & let Rodrygo go past too easily.

Wayne Ellis: City aren’t winning the CL with Gabriel Jesus up front. Painfully average player made to look better than he is by the supporting cast

Great run by Kyle Walker as he skips a couple of challenges but perhaps gets a bit too excited and goes for an ambitious effort from outside the box when a pass to Raheem Sterling may have been the better option.

  13. Real Madrid fire a warningpublished at 20:33 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Etihad Stadium

Manchester City had been given a couple of warnings that Real Madrid were still alive in this tie and now there is a spring in the step of the La Liga champions. Karim Benzema has had a magnificent season and that was a towering header.

That's what Real do if you give them chances.

Anywhere near the goal, Karim Benzema is dangerous. He is lethal.

    Karim Benzema (29 mins)

    Game on!

Superb header, no stopping that as Rodrygo delivers a perfect cross from the right and Karim Benzema rises to nod powerfully beyond the dive of Ederson.

It was an awful start by Real Madrid but they have improved in the last few minutes.

Man City 1-0 Real Madrid (Agg: 3-1)

Joao Cancelo goes on a surging run after nicking the ball from Dani Carvajal. The full back drives through the middle but his pass is a bit too heavy for Raheem Sterling.

    Juventus 0-1 Lyon (Agg: 0-2)

Lyon look really comfortable here. Dishing out an upset with ease at the moment. Juventus dreadfully flat - they did win only two of their last eight Serie A games.

Paul: Still don't think City or Real Madrid will win this Champions League this season. You won't get Bayern Munich giving away daft goals like that. They look the team to fear out of all of them.

Adam Byrne: Don't know why people say Gabriel Jesus is not good enough for City - he's scored (and set up) bucket loads of goals at the age of 23 and works his socks off in every single match

Better from Real Madrid as Eden Hazard carries the ball up the left, Karim Benzema points to where he wants it, gets in behind before his shot on the turn is pushed away by Ederson.

The Manchester City goalkeeper has to be alert again soon after to keep out a low Hazard drive at his near post.

Ed O'Toole: This is about as poor a Real Madrid team that I have ever seen.
