    Juventus 0-1 Lyon (Agg: 0-2)

How has that stayed out? Juventus almost have one of the three they need as Federico Bernardeschi dribbles around the goalkeeper but he's tackled right on the line. Good defending!

    Decent game.

Lovely, lovely footwork by Raheem Sterling as he dances through the Real Madrid defence.

He looks certain to score but Casemiro does well to slide in and block the shot.

Never a penalty. Incredibly harsh on Juventus. I was sat here thinking what a great tackle. VAR isn't the issue. It's the people sat behind the desk. Lost all credibility in my opinion.

  5. Sterling hits 100published at 20:18 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Man City 1-0 Real Madrid (Agg: 3-1)

That was Raheem Sterling's 100th goal in all competitions for Manchester City.

He's the first Englishman to reach three figures for the club since Dennis Tueart in 1981 and becomes just the sixth different Englishman to score 20 Champions League goals.

Only Wayne Rooney reached that total at a younger age than Sterling.

Re: Zac. I've always found that nighttime games in general have an edge to them that daytime games don't, and that's down to the atmosphere being turned up. Lack of fans is gonna make a bigger impact in that case.

  7. Man City make flying startpublished at 20:17 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Man City 1-0 Real Madrid (Agg: 3-1)

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Etihad Stadium

Manchester City are being urged on by squad members and backroom staff sitting behind the technical area, applauding wildly every time they see Real Madrid being put under pressure.

And there is lots for them to applaud because Real Madrid are not getting a second to relax. They can't make any headway at all in possession.

  8. CLOSE!published at 20:17 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Man City 1-0 Real Madrid (Agg: 3-1)

Raheem Sterling is afforded loads of space on the edge of the box after he is picked out by Kevin de Bruyne. Sterling takes his time before clipping a decent effort onto the roof of the Real Madrid goal.

Manchester City are firmly on top.

Luka Modric thrashes an effort high into the stands and the person responsible for the crowd effects is swiftly onto the 'ironic cheers' button. Expertly timed, terrible shot.

Manchester City are on the hunt again and Phil Foden's shot is blocked but the ball breaks to Ilkay Gundogan, whose effort also strikes a Real Madrid defender.

  12. 'You cannot defend like that'published at 20:13 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Man City 1-0 Real Madrid (Agg: 3-1)

    Dion Dublin
Former Aston Villa & Man Utd striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

You cannot do that. If you're going to be sloppy, if you take that much time, you give the opposing side that edge to creep forward.

It's the easiest goal he [Raheem Sterling] will ever score in the Champions League. He'll take those all day long.

It doesn't matter who you are, if you play out slow from the back you will get caught out.

  14. PENALTY to LYONpublished at 20:11 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

    Juventus 0-0 Lyon (Agg: 0-1)

    Now then!

Houssem Aouar drives into the area, he's tackled cleanly enough - it looks like anyway - but was he caught before the ball was won?

It seems so! Penalty given - though VAR are having a look.

GOAL - Man City 1-0 Real Madrid (Agg: 3-1)published at 20:10 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

    Raheem Sterling (nine mins)

    Terrible error in defence!

An absolute gift for Manchester City as Raphael Verane dithers on the ball deep inside his own box. Gabriel Jesus has all the time in the world to pinch possession and he swiftly finds Raheem Sterling, who sidefoots home for his 100th goal for the club.

Real Madrid still need to score twice, but they could have done without such an awful start.

Manchester City's first attempt on goal comes via the boot of Kevin de Bruyne as he is picked out 25 yards from goal by Ilkay Gundogan's square ball. De Bruyne has a go from distance but his effort is deflected wide by Eder Militao.

  18. ''Benzema's best season'published at 20:07 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Man City 0-0 Real Madrid (Agg: 2-1)

Former Real Madrid President Ramon Calderon speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live on Karim Benzema: "This is the best season for sure since he came to Real Madrid but before we must take into account Crsitiano Ronaldo had all the focus.

"It's difficult to play close to a player like Ronaldo who scores 50, 60 goals. It is difficult but with Bezema before he was not really respected or given value for what he is doing."

  19. Postpublished at 20:06 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Man City 0-0 Real Madrid (Agg: 2-1)

Alert defending by Fernandinho as he takes the ball from the feet of Karim Benzema just inside the Manchester City area. A pretty low tempo start, though, neither side going for it from the off.

No false nines on this occasion as it does appear that Gabriel Jesus is playing through the middle with Kevin de Bruyne and Phil Foden either side.
