    Juventus 0-0 Lyon (Agg: 0-1)

Gonzalo Higuain miscues a volley which loops tamely at Anthony Lopes in the Lyon goal. It's not even a chance - but I mention it as it means that already Juve have had more shots on target then they mustered in the first leg.

Former Real Madrid President Ramon Calderon speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live on Sergio Ramos' absence: "He is one of the best not only in defence but also he scores goals and in important matches. Most of all he's a leader on and off the field. We are going to miss him for sure. Sergio is much more than a player, he is a leader of this team.

"It's true that what they have done with the defence is to compensate for losing the goals Cristiano Ronaldo scored for the team. Karim Benzema has had very good results but not the 60 goals Ronaldo was scoring every season. The reason they have got the title this year I think has been the defence."

Tom Gregory: Sadly predicting that Fernandinho will once again suffer being played out of position and likely give away a penalty. Great player but not at CB against Real

That looks a very defensive lineup for City. Trouble is can they defend.

On Gareth Bale's situation at Real Madrid...

We don't know what's going on behind closed doors.

It's hard for me to say why he [Gareth Bale] has said that. He may have good reason, they may have fallen out, he may have said something.

I don't think it's right for a player to say they don't want to play but this has been going on for a long, long time and it might just be an accumulation of things.

  9. Zidane's perfect knockout record at stakepublished at 19:51 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Man City v Real Madrid (20:00 BST)

Ok so there's obviously much more at stake tonight, but Zinedine Zidane has won all 12 of his previous Champions League knockout ties as a manager.

An incredible record. But will it be unlucky number 13?

Tonight is Cristiano Ronaldo's 170th appearance in the Champions League - he's just the second man to reach that figure and he's now just seven games behind the record holder, Iker Casillas.

His haul of 128 goals is, frankly, absurd...

  13. 'We just need to be ourselves'published at 19:44 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Man City v Real Madrid (2-1 agg, 20:00 BST)

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to BT Sport: "This knockout stage is worth two games, in the future it will be one, the situation is a little different. It is what is it, it is still one game where you are in the position you have to win to go through.

"We need to be ourselves, we need to try to play with a lot of rhythm, create a lot of chances, be ourselves."

On not starting David Silva: "I decide for this team selection, for the three players up front and in midfield. We will need David during the game but we want to start strong with the rhythm."

On if he was surprised about Eden Hazard starting for Real Madrid: "It was an option. I don't think too much about this before."

    Dion Dublin

It's exciting. I've never played in games in the Champions League of this stature before.

You cannot make a mistake, you have to be on your game.

The level of concentration and performance tonight have to be at the very highest level for either team to get through.

Real have been in magnificent form since the coronavirus break, winning 10 and drawing their other La Liga game to wrap up the title.

Manchester City have won nine of their 12 games, but lost their Premier League title to Liverpool and were beaten in the FA Cup semi-final by Arsenal.

However, they have been phenomenal at home, winning all six of the league fixtures at Etihad, scoring 24 goals and conceding just one.

Just a reminder that Real need to score twice tonight to have a chance of progressing...

  18. 'Fernandinho City's figurehead'published at 19:31 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

It's the match-up everyone wants to see.

The midfield match up, that midfield battle, is where the game will be won and lost. It's the midfield area - if that gets dominated by one side - that side will win the game."

You never know what Pep [Guardiola] is thinking but he knows if he leaves him [Eric Garcia] out he won't be left weak.

Fernandinho is the figurehead tonight. He's their leader. He will marshall the defence, he's that good he could play anywhere in midfield or defence.

  19. 'We must impose ourselves'published at 19:30 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, writing in tonight's programme: “What we need to do above all other things is be ourselves. We must show our personality and our intensity and desire. We must try to impose ourselves on a very talented Madrid side.

“I would not like to finish the game and think we were not like we usually are.

"I do not want to have any regrets at the end of the game, and I do not want the players to have any either – no matter whether we progress or not.”

  20. Future not riding on this game - Sarripublished at 19:26 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

Not even winning your domestic league's title is a guarantee to save you from the sack.

Maurizio Sarri, fresh from leading Juventus to their ninth consecutive Serie A title, had to face questions on his future prior to tonight's game against Lyon.

There has been reports that he could go tonight if Juventus fail to win, but Sarri has dismissed such concerns.

"I don't think my future is riding on this game," said Sarri. "Thinking this way you make the club directors look like amateurs.

"I think I'm dealing with high level directors. They will decide whether to continue or to change. But it doesn't depend on a single game."
