David de Gea is the best goalkeeper. Dean Henderson has got massive potential after a great season but it's a completely different thing to play for Manchester United. There's a reason why De Gea has been number one for a number of years - because he is the best. Form is temporary and class is permanent.

Nathan House: Many fans are immune to the nonsense transfer speculation at United followed by the complete lack of action until the last moments of the window. We were “after” Sancho last summer and ended up with £15m Daniel James. Never forget!

  3. 'Romero is in good form'published at 19:27 British Summer Time 10 August 2020

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, speaking to BT Sport: "Sergio Romero is in good form. He played really well on Wednesday and I didn't see any need to change.

"Eric Bailly played one of his better games against LASK. He needs game time because hopefully we can go through and have players ready for the next round.

"We are here to win the tournament of course but you have to go one game at a time. It will be a hard game and it will be up to us to not disappoint the Manchester United supporters."

People were questioning Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a Manchester United manager. He was questioning the players about whether they wanted to be part of his Manchester United team. He wanted to give them the platform and the confidence. They have responded to that challenge from Ole. Now everybody is talking about the great front three and how dangerous they are. Nobody would have expected that a year ago. That shows they have been given confidence and risen to the challenge.

They are such good mates that apparently this is the moment Stale Solbakken received a text message from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his pre-match news conference.

I wonder what Ole said to prompt that reaction?

There may be a little bit of Stale Solbakken in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's management style.

The current Manchester United boss spent time shadowing Solbakken in 2011 at FC Copenhagen and they were also Norway team-mates during their playing days.

"We are friends from the national team in the 90s, where Norway was the second-best team in the world," said Solbakken.

"You won't believe that! We were ranked number two in the world, so we played in a World Cup together.

"He took his coaching badge and I think he came to me before the last-16 against Chelsea in the Champions League in 2011.

"We have a good relationship. We are not close friends but I can say we are good friends."

I don't think there is pressure on them to win. Of course, it's Manchester United so they are expected to win. But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken pressure off the team.

FC Copenhagen boss Stale Solbakken believes his side's chances of knocking out Manchester United have been boosted by the tie being a one-legged affair.

"We have better opportunities over one match than if it were two, but we do not have great opportunities," Solbakken told Danish outlet Bold."But it is clear we have better opportunities with one match in an empty stadium than we would have with a full Old Trafford and a full Parken."

The tension is higher in one-legged ties. It's more like an FA Cup final. There is a little bit more pressure. The manager can rotate over two-legs. You can always plan to have a second chance of recovery from an average performance. Tonight, Manchester United know they have to produce to get into the semi-finals.

  11. What's holding up a potential Sancho deal?published at 19:09 British Summer Time 10 August 2020

Man Utd v FC Copenhagen (20:00 BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

It will be interesting to see what happens now. I mentioned to someone at Dortmund there is a feeling around United that the Bundesliga side have to sell Sancho for financial reasons.

The answer was fairly quick in coming back - "they will see". Time will tell on that one. The truth is, before we even get to that point, something has to change within the current negotiations.

The news about Sancho's contract running to 2023 underlines why Dortmund have been sticking to their guns when it came to that £100m fee, which United believe to be unrealistic.

But it's not just the fee that is too high. Wages and agents fees are also a sticking point it seems. United simply do not believe, in the Covid-affected world football finds itself in, that either are realistic.

There is also an element of frustration in the corridors of power at Old Trafford around Dortmund's claims not to have had any contact with United when they asked for negotiations to be conducted through intermediaries. Discussions, it is being suggested, have been too slow.

United have been threatening to look at alternative targets. Now we might find out if they have any. Today was an artificial deadline - the real one is on 5 October - but the positions do appear entrenched. It will be fascinating to see who moves first.

Alexis Sanchez, whose loan move from Manchester United has been made permanent, Victor Moses and Christian Eriksen are on the bench.

Bayer Leverkusen make two changes - one enforced - from their 1-0 win against Rangers.

Julian Baumgartlinger and Kerem Demirbay replace Florian Wirtz and the suspended Charles Aranguiz.

Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte is wary of the pace Bayer Leverkusen has in their side, and is expecting them to try and catch the Italians on the counter.

He said: "Leverkusen have a lot of talented and quick players who can be very dangerous in counter-attacks. When we attack, we’ll have to be wary of the pace of the Leverkusen players.

"We have to be in a position to play our game and make the most of our qualities to cause problems for the opposition."

It is a bit of a strange time with the summer transfer window open while there's loads of football still to be played, but here's a bit of news that's not what Manchester United fans wanted to hear.

Borussia Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc was speaking to the media earlier today and he says forward Jadon Sancho will remain at the German club next season.

"We plan on having Jadon Sancho in our team this season," said Zorc. "The decision is final. I think that answers all our questions."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says "there's more to come" from Anthony Martial after the finest season of the Frenchman's career.

Martial scored his 23rd goal of the season against LASK in Wednesday's Europa League last-16 victory. He has never scored more than 17 in a single campaign and this term's tally is more than the last two seasons combined.

"Physically, he is at the best level of his career," said Solskjaer.

"We know he can do worldies but I like him scoring the simple goals, when he is in between the posts. He's done that a few times. "He's in the gym a lot working on his fitness and strength. I'm just looking forward to seeing him improve. There's more to come from him."

    Hello!

Yes, the 2019-20 domestic season may be over - and it may be only a month until the next campaign begins - but sandwiched in-between we have the joys of European club football, but with an international flavour to it.

That's because the Europa League and Champions League quarter-finals have been turned into a 'final eight' tournament.

That means we have a little under two weeks of pure knockout matches - no two-legged affairs - and it all begins tonight with the below two fixtures:

    (Both 20:00 BST)

    Man Utd v FC Copenhagen

    Inter Milan v Bayer Leverkusen

It's the Europa League quarter-finals but not as you know it.

Two days, four ties and all-or-nothing one-off games.

    Bring it on!
