    Man Utd 1-1 Sevilla

Another reminder that Sevilla are unbeaten in 19 games!

Confidence is flowing through the Spanish side at the moment as they patiently spread the ball around the pitch.

    United regain possession though...

Tom: I've followed United since the mid 60's and you can't tell me Rashford is a left winger, always, even with poor teams they've had decent wingers. And another thing, Maguire just wasn't worth anywhere near what was paid for him.

Sunday Abraham: I’m a United fan. We shouldn’t rely on the one goal. They have been playing in our hand and I’m pretty sure we can hurt them in counter attack.

Jack Lovatt: Could be some Sevilla consequences if United don't get any more penalties tonight

  3. Chance!published at 34 mins

    Man Utd 1-1 Sevilla

Anthony Martial has his head in his hands after he sidefoots a shot from the edge of the area over the bar - it was good build-up play from both Mason Greenwood and Paul Pogba.

This will not end 1-1 at normal time.

  4. 'Have United done the wrong thing?'published at 20:33 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Man Utd 1-1 Sevilla

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Have United done the wrong thing in sitting back?

Should they have gone after Sevilla and attacked the game?

You often see teams sit back and they're comfortable with what they've done, but United had an opportunity to take the game to Sevilla.

Sergio Reguilon is having a whale of a time on that left side - United's attacking players are needing to get back to double-up on the tricky wing-back.

Smart play by Sevilla to concede the penalty so early on. Takes away the tactical edge of the obligatory Utd pen at a later stage in the game.

    Marlo

Perhaps De Gea could use his hands!!

    Mike Harding

Is Pogba playing? Fred run off his feet, but as usual Pogba strolls around. Get Matic on, sell Pogba!

We've already seen English sides implode recently - will it happen again here?

  8. 'United frustration'published at 20:29 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Man Utd 1-1 Sevilla

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Frustrating for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He'll be very annoyed at Manchester United's defending.

There's controversy on the pitch. Jules Kounde goes for a header with Marcus Rashford and it looks like he leaves it but it clips his head. Sevilla take the throw-in quickly and the rest is history.

The United players are still furious at that decision.

    Suso

Until they can't soak up no more.

Sevilla set the move going from deep in their own half from a throw-in. The ball finds Sergio Reguilon on the left who delivers a low cross to the fast-arriving ex-Liverpool man Suso who sweeps in his shot inside the near post. David De Gea was definitely not at fault there.

Anthony Martial concedes a free-kick 30 yards from his own goal thinking he;d won the ball fairly. Seconds later Lucas Ocampos heads over the United bar.

The English side are soaking up some pressure here....

    Another yellow card for Sevilla.

It's a tactical foul. Because of the speed at which United break, Sevilla know they're in danger every time United attack.

  12. Postpublished at 24 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Sevilla

Bruno Fernandes' penalty in the ninth minute was the earliest Sevilla have conceded in a Europa League game since May 2015 - conceding in the seventh minute of the final against Dnipro.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 22 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Sevilla

Sevilla win a free-kick on the right after a foul on Jesus Navas - eventually the former Manchester City man fizzes in a low cross which is blocked. A tad bit of danger there for United.

Diego Carlos, who must be looking to be the headline here, gets a yellow for a foul on Anthony Martial.

Ben Kellow: I hope United don't sit on this lead, it's a recipe for disaster. We have to push for more goals.

Mike Greenwood: People questioning the penalty but if tht happened in open play, it would have been a free kick for a late challenge. What's the difference?

Andrew Mitchell: Anywhere else on the pitch it’s a stonewall free kick (and maybe a yellow card). It’s a lunge, it’s late. Explain how it’s not a penalty? More of a question is why those aren’t always given.

    Man Utd 1-0 Sevilla

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Sevilla are playing into Manchester United's hands.

This is what United can do now - they can play on the counter knowing Sevilla are going to come forward.

With the quality they possess up front they're going to cause Sevilla all kinds of danger.

  18. Close again for United!published at 16 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Sevilla

Fred wins the ball in midfield then makes his way into the area - a step-over before he fires wide under pressure from Diego Carlos. It was deemed a fair challenge by ref Dr. Felix Brych this time.

    Yes, he's a doctor. I think.

Meanwhile, at the other end David De Gea punches away an angled effort from Lucas Ocampos. First test passed.

  19. Postpublished at 13 mins

Sevilla look for a quick response, but their foray forward ends up with Jesus Navas - now a kind of full-back - striking the ball wildly into the empty stands behind.

JChesterUnited: I'm a united fan, but that is a dodgy penalty.

Stuart Mitchell: watch people say "another penalty for United." That was as blatant a penalty as they come. Brilliantly taken by Fernandes.

Kit Beaupre: So rare to see a foul given for a follow through after a shot has been taken. Nice to see it for once

Adam Kitchiner: Thought penalties were for goal scoring opportunities..? Rashford had already shot and ball was going out of play
