    Man Utd 1-0 Sevilla

Manchester United have now been awarded 22 penalties in all competitions this season.

That's the most a team within Europe’s top 5 leagues has had in single campaign since Barcelona in 2015-16, when they were awarded 24.

  2. 'I don't think it's a penalty'published at 20:10 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Man Utd 1-0 Sevilla

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Personally I don't think it is [a penalty].

It's a genuine attempt to try and block the ball, there's no attempt to make a dangerous challenge on him.

    But it's a magnificent penalty.

    Bruno Fernandes

    No nerves.

Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes steps up and nonchalantly smacks his kick high past Yassine Bounou.

His 14th for United since he joined in January. Incredible.

  4. PENALTY TO MAN UTDpublished at 7 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Sevilla

Interesting. So Diego Carlos brings down Marcus Rashford just after the forward produced a shot which was almost tucked in by Bruno Fernandes at the far post.

    Fernandes to take it.

  5. 'Magnificent Sevilla press'published at 20:06 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Man Utd 0-0 Sevilla

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

The press form Sevilla - they're all over Manchester United.

It's a magnificent start from Sevilla in the way they have gone after United with their press.

  6. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Sevilla

United make a bit of a mess in stopping Sevilla from approaching their area. Sergio Reguilon wins a corner for the Spanish team, which is subsequently cleared - with ease.

There is no pattern in play, as such, so far.

Getting away from the goalkeeper debate, my outrage is at the unnecessary away kit. I don't care that it's new, WEAR RED.

    Man Utd 0-0 Sevilla

United are immediately on the front foot. Bruno Fernandes starts things moving around the area - Mason Greenwood tries to find a gap to launch a shot but his effort is blocked. Fernandes then follows up but his effort goes out for a corner.

The resulting corner is headed over the bar by Harry Maguire.

Great start for the English side.

  9. 'Two of Europe's form teams'published at 20:02 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Man Utd 0-0 Sevilla

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Sevilla are a team that is very solid defensively but it is two of the in-form teams in Europe since the restart.

There are going to be tactical battles all over the pitch. I'm intrigued to see how both sides set up.

  11. Has Fernandes recovered?published at 19:58 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

We've seen such a high level from Bruno Fernandes, that if there is any slight dip we are looking for an excuse as to why that has happened.

He is going to have a dip because of the amount of games he is playing. It was going to happen.

Whether they've rested him this week and given him time to get his feet up and recover, we'll only know when the game kicks off tonight if he's fully fit - and not as tired as he looked against Copenhagen the other night.

Reid Anderson: Ole starts deGea and gets a result he’s a winner or, deGea repeats his FA Cup performance and he has the decision on Henderson made for him

All this criticism of Ole regarding dropping Romero. Has anybody stopped to think he might be giving De Gea at least one more game for United before he sells him in the summer.

The Sevilla players are first out of the tunnel.

Why is everyone on de gea's back before a ball has been kicked? Ederson made a mistake last night and that's already been forgotten. Get behind him and watch him return to being #1 in the world. My money is on him being our hero in penalties tonight.

RegularJon: Romero unlucky to miss out. However, De Gea is top class and will hopefully show it tonight. He gets more stick for mistakes than others because of how good he’s been for us. I’ve not seen much about the Ederson mistake last night. If that were DDG...

Francesca Gunn: I think with how well Romero has done, knowing he only conceded a couple goals during the whole competition, that’s it not fair to drop him. It’s the same as FA Cup semi’s and de gea cost us. I truly hope Ole doing this again doesn’t bite us in the behind

Harry Salmon: Feel for Romero not being selected, but the best managers make tough decisions so I'm rooting for Ole and De Gea

Amazed that no one is bringing the Henderson dynamic into the De Gea / Romero debate. I would be shocked if Ole isn't looking to get Romero out the club, and tonights omission is a great trigger to make that happen. The right long term option for united into the next season is to put De Gea and Henderson into a fight for the No. 1 jersey. Romero doesn't fit that plan. It's ruthless, but the one thing Ole has done consistently is make calls for what he thinks is the long term success of the club.

    Dewi, Macclesfield.

You can't help wonder if Romero has played his last game for man utd. With Henderson seemingly set to stay I can't see us finding any suitors for de gea so it must surely be at the expense of romero. I hope Henderson gets more game time than romero has though. If de gea messes up I can't see oly backing him so much with Henderson waiting in the wings.
