The equation for Barnsley today is simple. And quite bleak.

Anything other than a win over Nottingham Forest and they will be making an immediate return to League One.

The Tykes were excellent in their 1-0 defeat at champions Leeds on Thursday but, as has so often been the case for them this season, they could not turn their performance into points.

For Forest, anything other than defeat secures their place in the play-offs.

Meanwhile, Leeds United's social media team, never ones to be caught missing an opportunity to have some fun, appear to be making reference to a previous event involving the two clubs. Any ideas?

Leeds United will benefit the Premier League in terms of brand and exposure after ending a 16-year exile with their promotion, according to former boss Howard Wilkinson.

Wilkinson led Leeds to their last promotion to the top flight in 1990 and won the First Division title two years later.

"It means more to the Premier League than maybe it does to Leeds," Wilkinson told BBC Sport.

"They'll bring a lot to the party, if they do well. They'll add to the attraction of that league, which is now a worldwide league in terms of spectators."

However, the Championship relegation battle is a very complex one for the other teams involved.

Wigan have a 12-point deduction hanging over them after going into administration. The Latics have appealed against that sanction. If it is imposed, they will drop back to 46 points and will go from 13th position to 22nd.

The final round of league fixtures is on Wednesday.

Leeds can enjoy their final two games with no pressure whatsoever after being crowned champions yesterday.

Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, need one point to be assured of a play-off place. Seventh-placed Swansea, who have 67 points from 45 matches, are the only side that can catch Forest.

    Fans outside Elland Road

After a long absence from English football's top flight, it's fair to say Leeds United supporters were in fine fettle following their side's promotion.

They were asked not to by the club's owner, but fans gathered outside Elland Road on Friday after their return to the top flight was confirmed after West Bromwich Albion lost to Huddersfield.

Marcelo Bielsa's side were crowned champions a day later, without having kicked a ball, after Brentford lost to Stoke.

Celebrations outside the ground drew comparisons to Christmas Day for some, with the party carrying on until Sunday.

  10. The promotion party beginspublished at 13:30 British Summer Time 19 July 2020

    Derby v Leeds (14:00 BST)

Hello and welcome to the Leeds fans who are visiting this page with a sore head after a weekend of celebrations following their promotion to the Premier League as well as being crowned champions of the 2019-20 Championship season.

What follows, at least for the Leeds contingent, is the ability to watch today's game away at Derby free of the tensions that come with a side battling for promotion.

However, elsewhere in Yorkshire later today, we also have Barnsley's crucial game against Nottingham Forest with the Tykes needing a result to avoid being relegated back to League One this afternoon.

    It's all to play for.
