  2. Mellon frustrated but 'pleased' nonethelesspublished at 19:55 British Summer Time 22 August 2020

    FT: Dundee United 0-1 Celtic

Dundee United manager Micky Mellon: "I am very pleased for them [my players]. They are a great bunch of lads. I am pleased for them - I don't want to say proud because that's not the right word - we are very frustrated. We have got a lot of talented young players here with big hearts and great desire. We'll keep pushing this football club forward.

"We didn't come here to have our bellies tickled, trust me. I'm disappointed we've lost. We wanted to have right good go at Celtic and we did that. [On goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist] We are blessed to have him here. He is consistent and very calm."

  3. Lennon praises players' attitudepublished at 19:49 British Summer Time 22 August 2020

    FT: Dundee United 0-1 Celtic

Celtic manager Neil Lennon: "You always have faith in the players. Their attitude was tremendous. They didn't get frustrated, they kept going. We got the goal that we deserved over the 90 minutes. I thought we were outstanding at times today but just lacked a finishing touch. From 25 minutes on we were totally dominant. I think 1-0 flattered United.

"If you are going to have any criticism of the team it's that we didn't score enough goals. [Albian Ajeti] isn't match fit, he hasn't had a lot of football in the past 12 months. Once he gets up to speed I think he'll be a good player for us.

"We're actively looking to bring a couple more [players] in. Whether or not we can get it done by the deadline on Monday, I couldn't tell."

  5. Tough on United but Celtic kept goingpublished at 19:37 British Summer Time 22 August 2020

    FT: Dundee United 0-1 Celtic

It's going to be a tough evening for Micky Mellon and his Dundee United players. They defended brilliantly and in Benjamin Siegrist they have a very impressive goalie. Unfortunately for them, they didn't do enough to threaten the Celtic goal and were unlikely to take more than a point at best from the match. Albian Ajeti not only scored the winner but had a hand in its set-up as he jumped to head the ball back in to play after Siegrist had saved Ryan Christie's shot.

United always looked as if they were going to run out of gas because they had put in such an effort, but they kept going, and it looked like Celtic were going to run of time. They upped the tempo - you could tell Neil Lennon had got at them at half-time. Not having the big Celtic crowd at Tannadice has taken away a little bit from Celtic.

  20. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 18:57 British Summer Time 22 August 2020

    Dundee United 0-0 Celtic

A ball over the top and through the middle of the United defence by Christopher Jullien finds Odsonne Edouard. The striker's touch allows the ball to just go out of his range, but a fraction of a second later Mark Connolly pulls him by the shoulder and down he goes. Not a great deal of contact but that's dangerous stuff from the home defence.
