  3. 'They need to explain the rules to us again'published at 22:20 British Summer Time 19 September 2020

    Arsenal 2-1 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes says the handball rule needs to be explained better.

Gabriel was not penalised when the ball hit his outstretched arm, although it hit his sleeve rather than his lower arm.

"I think it was a penalty," he told BBC Sport. "If it wasn't they need to explain the rules to us again. We’re all unsure.

"You don’t know either [he said to the interviewer]. He should have headed it, because he missed it, it hit his arm. He should have been punished for that.

"I think the goals could have been chalked off for offside."

    Moyes felt they deserved better...

"We asked for a better performance and we got it. Everyone who watched that would ask how West Ham didn't get the three points. The answer is we turned off. We missed a few chances. We don’t deserve to lose this."

    Arsenal 2-1 West Ham

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to BBC Sport: “I’m thrilled with the three points. I said before the game how difficult it would be with the way they play.

"We made it even more difficult in the first 15 minutes with the amount of balls we gave away and the open spaces we gave them to run into. I’m glad we found the right moment and kept competing and believing, with good momentum in the last 25 minutes.

“We created many other situations. But we gave too many opportunities to the opponent in the final third. There are still a lot of things we need to get better at.

“Eddie can do that every week. He’s hungry and has a great quality to score goals.”

Daniel Cheng: Good win here but we really need to dominate these games more and put it to bed early

Craig Smith: I feel like last year we would lost this. Again Gabriel my MOTM. Really makes the difference having a solid centre half. Excited by the prospect of him, Tierney and Saliba at the back going forward.

Josh Verrills: It’s no wonder players like Anderson and Haller get frustrated playing for a team like West Ham when they only ever get given five minute cameo appearances each PL game as Moyes refuses to make any substitution before the 80th minute each game

    Arsenal 2-1 West Ham

    Arsenal

Arsenal matchwinner Eddie Nketiah to Sky Sports: "Almost [the first touch]. The second maybe. It's nice to get on and help the team win."

On his clash with Ceballos last week...

"We had a bit of a coming together. The reaction was there. We made up an got on with it. It was nice for him to make the assist. It's all love now.

"It was a great pass across, good vision. I tried to stay onside. It was an easy finish from there.

"I want to keep improving as a player. It's a great feeling to come on and score.

"West Ham made it very difficult. They came out very strongly in the second half."

Cellabos and Nketiah fighting last week and making the leading goal this week. Hopefully the argument came from a desire to be on the pitch and make a difference. Seem to work.
