    Leeds 0-0 Fulham

Big blow to Leeds to lose Pablo Hernandez in the warm-up. They have had to reshuffle things around in midfield.

Ivan Cavaleiro tries to take advantage by cutting inside from the left, driving at the midfield but he can't get a shot away.

  2. 'As a manager I want to hear an explanation'published at 15:02 British Summer Time 19 September 2020

    FT: Everton 5-2 West Brom

    West Bromwich Albion

West Brom boss Slaven Bilic, speaking to BT Sport about Kieran Gibbs' red card: "It was a red card. He reacted on something James had done to him. You can't do it, I told him that.

"When he clipped him he did not go down and doing things a lot of Premier League players do. But he made a mistake."

On his own red card: "If there is a recording, I had done nothing. I complained, I think as a manager I have every right. It was at half time. I was frustrated, came to him but he started to go.

"I was sure I did not swear, I only explained the situation for the first goal. If the VAR is checking for a minute or even longer then they could see there was a foul in the build up. If you have those eight eyes and they are watching five times they have to see that all. As a manager I want to hear an explanation. I should be in a position to be able to have a word with them but he didn't want to give me that."

On his side's performance: "We were so good in the first half in every way - on the ball and off the ball. That half was 2-1 for us. We have to limit mistakes, they have players in positions with unbelievable quality and that is how they won the game.

"I saw a lot of positives."

Simon Atkins: This is the first proper test for Leeds. No-one expected them to get anything at Liverpool, and they were hyped up for their return to the Premier League. These games against teams like Fulham will be the mark of if they can survive or not.

  9. 'Rodriguez made it easy because of quality'published at 14:57 British Summer Time 19 September 2020

    Everton 5-2 West Brom

    Everton

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti to BBC Sport: "The game was not so easy. We had difficulties in the first half. West Brom were better than us. We had a good reaction. With the advantage of one more player we were more in control.

“At some points we have to be focused more and do better.

“The players have come back with more ambition and motivation. The new signings have helped us be more motivated. Good momentum for us.

“I’m really pleased for James Rodriguez. A new country, a new league – it was not so easy. But he made it easy because he has a lot of quality. A fantastic player.

“Dominic Calvert-Lewin has developed really well. He’s working really well, more confidence. A striker has to score with one touch. I told him if you use more than one touch it’s difficult to score. He understood really well. He has speed, he jumps really high, he has power. Where he has improved more is in the box – he’s more focused.

“We are working well. We don’t want to look too much forward. All we can do is be focused on Wednesday’s game in the Carabao Cup.”

    Leeds v Fulham (15:00 BST)

Leeds are seeking back-to-back league victories against Fulham for the first time since December 2003, when the Whites were last in the Premier League.

The home team has not lost any of the previous eight league meetings.

In the past 31 Premier League matches between two newly promoted clubs, the away side has managed to win just twice - both of which came at relegated Norwich last season.

    Micah Richards
Former Man City defender on Final Score

Fulham rely too much on Aleksandar Mitrovic. If you take him out of the team, with the goals he scored last season, you will never be the same.

There's still a couple of weeks left in the transfer window. Fulham will hope they can bring someone in.

    Leeds v Fulham (15:00 BST)

Tony Blair was the UK prime minister, the likes of Busted and McFly were going strong in the UK singles charts and American TV sitcom Friends had just aired its final episode when Leeds last played a Premier League fixture at Elland Road.

It really was that long ago, with a 3-3 draw against Charlton confirming Leeds' relegation in May 2004.

James Milner could well be the only player on the team sheet that day that is still playing today.

  14. 'Rodriguez makes football look easy'published at 14:51 British Summer Time 19 September 2020

    Everton 5-2 West Brom

    Everton

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti, speaking to BT Sport: "The result doesn't reflect what happened on the pitch because honestly they were better at the start. We had a good reaction after the goal we conceded."

Getting a good reaction from Dominic Calvert-Lewin? "I hope so. He started really well. Today was the top scorer but there was also Richarlison who did well. The combination up front was good and they had support from James who is doing really well in this period. Satisfying in front, we have to be better at the back."

On good start: "We have seen more ambition, more motivation more focussed. For the moment it is good but we have to pay attention because the games can be difficult.

"We were without balance in the beginning in defence. After two games it is normal everything is not perfect."

On James Rodriguez: "He makes football easy. He started really well and I am happy for this. He has fantastic desire to play, he loves to play with us."

    Karen Carney
Former England and Chelsea winger on Final Score

Marcelo Bielsa has been very loyal to Patrick Bamford. He knows his role and he leads the line very, very well.

He just needs to keep his confidence up and take his chances well.

Like Roberto Firmino at Liverpool, Bamford does the work that allows all the other players to be dynamic and get those opportunities.

  16. 'Hungry for the next 50'published at 14:48 British Summer Time 19 September 2020

    Leeds v Fulham (15:00 BST)

Aleksandar Mitrovic scored his 50th goal for Fulham in their Carabao Cup second-round win against Ipswich on Wednesday.

That's 50 goals in 102 appearances for the club he joined in February 2018. Fulham's next highest goalscorer in that time is Tom Cairney with 14.

He has a huge role to play for Fulham this season.

  17. 'I'm backing Bielsa's side'published at 14:48 British Summer Time 19 September 2020

    Leeds v Fulham (15:00 BST)

These two promoted teams both lost last weekend.

Those results do not really tell the full story, though. Leeds could not really have had a much more positive return to the top flight, despite their defeat at Anfield.

I'm backing Marcelo Bielsa's side to get the win this time, especially because they are playing at Elland Road.

As someone used to disappointment (that is to say, an Evertonian) I'm not getting carried away just yet. I will admit, though, that I've had more enjoyment from the first 3 games of this season than I got from the entirety of the last.
