  1. 'Great timing for Man Utd'published at 20:36 British Summer Time 30 September 2020

    Brighton 0-1 Manchester United

Former Chelsea midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Managers know as well as players, goals conceded before half time doesn't really change your team-talk but you can sense the mood going in [to the Brighton dressing room] now - there will be shouting from the experienced players about the marking.

For Manchester United, it's a great time to score.

Brandon Williams ending every possible Man Utd attack on the left. Just can't see how Man Utd think you can have a right footed left back in Modern football, so easy to defend and kills all Momentum.

    Jamie

I read today a United fan saying no new left back was needed because we have Shaw and Williams. The former is injury prone and the latter is not, and never will be, a left back. It's a very real problem area which needs to be addressed.

  5. 'Brighton caught flat-footed'published at 20:32 British Summer Time 30 September 2020

    Brighton 0-1 Manchester United

    Steve Sidwell
Former Chelsea midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

The Brighton defence was flat-footed there and it was an easy goal for Scott McTominay just to use the pace of the ball and head it into the goal.

I think VAR would have got involved there - it was tight - but we won't find out.

Graham Potter will be so disappointed. Brighton have defended so well but it's sloppy marking at the set-piece.

  6. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:31 British Summer Time 30 September 2020

    Burnley 0-2 Manchester City

Raheem Sterling nearly has his hat-trick but not for the first time tonight he's denied by Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

  7. goal

GOAL - Brighton 0-1 Manchester Unitedpublished at 20:28 British Summer Time 30 September 2020

    Scott McTominay (44 mins)

A terrible goal to concede. Juan Mata lifts in a free-kick, the Brighton line is all over the place and Scott McTominay only has to shrug off team-mate Eric Bailly and plant a header in.

What diet has he been on during lockdown? An absolute unit.

  9. 'Game crying out for United's star players'published at 20:27 British Summer Time 30 September 2020

    Brighton 0-0 Manchester United

Former Chelsea midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

You look at how tight this game is - and then you look at the benches.

Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Jesse Lingard - it's a game crying out for them to come into, to be explosive and make things happen.

Another positive, driving attack from Brighton which ends with Iran forward Alireza Jahanbakhsh leaning back and slamming a shot over the top.

Newport County manager Michael Flynn talking to Sky Sports: "Tough way to lose but I’m proud of my team and I thought the boys were superb.

"In the first half I thought we edged it, we were slightly the better team. But they showed their quality and one bit of magic levelled the tie, but that happens when you give Premier League players that amount of space."

  12. West Ham holding onpublished at 20:22 British Summer Time 30 September 2020

    Everton 1-0 West Ham

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Goodison Park

West Ham are lucky to still be in this contest.

Everton have had three decent chances and were denied a goal James Rodriguez's brilliant pass deserved when Richarlison was correctly given offside.

In contrast, apart from a couple of crosses that flashed across the six-yard area, the Hammers have done very little. They don't help themselves by giving the ball away close to the Everton box quite often.

Sam Hartles: You can already see how this game is going to pan out. It will be 0-0 or 1-0 Brighton and we’ll have to bring on Rashford Greenwood and Pogba on around the 60th minute. The front line is not quick or creative enough.

Does anyone know why Alexis Mac Allister has that gap in his name? He's looked very good again for Brighton, finding space and curling over the top.

  15. goal

GOAL - Burnley 0-3 Man Citypublished at 64 mins

    Ferran Torres (65 mins)

Ferran Torres has his first goal in England and City are heading for the quarter-finals.

It's a lovely finish by the Spaniard after Riyad Mahrez tries to pick out Raheem Sterling, the ball falling into Torres' path to finish.

    Burnley 0-2 Man City

The good news for Burnley is Kevin de Bruyne has been replaced.

The bad news is Bernardo Silva is on in his place.

Half a chance for Burnley but Ashley Barnes fires over.

  17. 'Potter will be delighted'published at 20:20 British Summer Time 30 September 2020

    Brighton 0-0 Manchester United

    Steve Sidwell
Former Chelsea midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

    Graham Potter will be delighted.

Out of possession the distances and the defensive shapes are spot on - they're stopping United's forwards getting on the ball.

  18. 'Newport threw everything at us'published at 20:18 British Summer Time 30 September 2020

Newport County 1-1 Newcastle (Newcastle win 5-4 on pens)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce talking to Sky Sports: "I have to credit Newport, you can understand now how they’ve beaten Watford and Swansea this year and in the past Middlesbrough and Leeds and they took City all the way. They beat Leicester as well, you can understand why.

"They’re a decent football side, congratulations to the manager and players; they threw everything at it, particularly in the last 10 to 15 mins.

"It looked like we wouldn’t get the breakthrough for a long time and we understand that’s our Achilles heel. We had 27 attempts on goal, 10 on target but until you get a goal it's always in the balance and they got one after five minutes which disturbs you and it gives them even more belief than they already had."

  19. Postpublished at 60 mins

    Burnley 0-2 Man City

No sign of a Burnley comeback.

City have had 12 attempts - six on target - and scored twice.

The Clarets have had one attempt on target.

    Brighton 0-0 Manchester United

Brighton spring a good-looking counter and free Bernardo down the left. He's galloping clear, Eric Bailly has to come over and make a challenge and does very well, shoulder to shoulder and he actually wins the free-kick.
