Poor goalkeeping for all three City goals. Granted the third was a great goal but why did the keeper go to ground so early? Should've played Leno.

    Chris, North Wales

Mustafi at fault for goals one & three, Runarsson at fault for goal two - it shouldn't be Arteta out, he isn't the problem here, the players we have are just sub-standard and no good for this level.

Bernardo Silva, like a diminutive scrum-half, bundling into the back of Dani Ceballos and finding his way into the book for his rugby-style challenge.

Seth: That Foden's goal highlights the importance of VAR that so many have criticised. That goal wouldn't have stood if VAR is in use in this match! Poor Arsenal.

Colin Reardon: What's the lino doing!? So clearly offside. They have one job.

Peter Collins: Arteta must be wondering what he's done to deserve this bad luck. Yes, he could do better, but can he really be blamed for persistent clangers from highly paid professionals?

It's brilliant from Fernandinho. He picks the ball up from 25 yards out of his own goal and just drives and runs forward.

Hang on, the replay is showing Phil Foden is offside - but there is no VAR.

Alex Runarsson doesn't need to come out, it's a bouncing ball, he makes the decision but is never going to get there. It's a brilliant finish by Foden but he has got time to have a look and just lofts it over him.

Well... if there was VAR tonight I think Phil Foden's effort would have been chalked off.

He looked offside from Fernandinho's pass, but it was a brilliant finish.

  9. goal

GOAL - Arsenal 1-3 Manchester Citypublished at 59 mins

    Phil Foden (59 mins)

    Just brilliant!

Phil Foden is sent through in behind the Arsenal defence, takes a wonderful touch to set himself and then coolly dinks it over the onrushing Alex Runarsson to extend City's lead.

If the second was lucky, that was just sublime.

Is it too obvious to make a Christmas pun about Runarsson gifting City the lead here?

That's a nightmare for Alex Runarsson, I feel for him. His hands go up above his face but come down far too quickly. He just needed to hold them up there, because if you don't get a clean catch, then you don't want it to go in front of you. He just put them up, put them back down again and with that, the timing has got to be perfect and it wasn't.

  12. goal

GOAL - Arsenal 1-2 Manchester Citypublished at 55 mins

    Riyad Mahrez (55 mins)

Oh no! Nightmare for Alex Runarsson as it squirms through his gloves.

Riyad Mahrez strikes the free-kick well but the Arsenal goalkeeper is right behind it. He looks to have it covered but somehow the ball sneaks through to put Manchester City ahead.

A moment to forget for the Icelander.

Rezaa Sait: Hasn't Arteta learnt from Partey not to rush a player from injury? Such a shame for Martinelli. I'd have kept him for Chelsea!

Daniel: Feel sorry for Martinelli. He's worked so hard to get back to playing, sets up the equaliser and now has to come off. Let's hope he's back again soon.

Neat footwork from Phil Foden as City work it left before Dani Ceballos pinches it off Gabriel Jesus. Arsenal look to break quickly but it comes straight back at them and Gabriel brings down Bernardo Silva on the edge of the box. They're lining up to hit this...

When you have a goalkeeper like Ederson sat on the bench, who can clear it a really long way, the threat over the top is such that it actually plays in the mind of City's opponents.

But if they don't have that - and Zack Steffen is not Ederson - then Arsenal can press without that fear of the ball going in behind.

A bit disjointed in the opening few minutes of this half, neither side able to really string an attack together. But Sergio Aguero is warming up.

Ambitious from Dani Ceballos, trying a spinning backheel from a bouncing ball but and instead putting it out for a throw. And this isn't good for Gabriel Martinelli, he's down again.

Think this might be his night over.

Manchester City coming flying forward from the kick-off but a loose touch from Bernardo Silva briefly turns the Emirates into a Sunday league pitch in Stevenage as a mass of players from both sides hare after the ball.
