  1. Postpublished at 68 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

That was a let-off for Tottenham, saved by a tight, albeit correct, VAR decision. But it will give encouragement to Brentford.

  2. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 21:08 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2021

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

Tottenham survive by such a small margin. Ivan Toney's knee is just, only, only, just offside.

    Brentford denied. Tottenham are lucky.

I think Ivan Toney could be offside - unless Hugo Lloris gets a touch? He does look offside.

  4. goal

GOAL - Tottenham 1-1 Brentfordpublished at 21:06 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2021

    Ivan Toney (Brentford)

A corner from the right, Ivan Toney misses a first header, Ethan Pinnock gets his head to it and Toney puts it in from close range.

    But wait.

    VAR check.

  5. CLOSE!published at 62 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

Moussa Sissoko has a goal to his name tonight and nearly an assist as well. He wins the ball 25 yards out and gets to the right-side of the penalty area, with his cross is met first-time by Son Heung-min.

Son is 15 yards out, but angles a shot at goal and it just flies past the post.

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

Jose Mourinho is looking to become the third manager to reach the League Cup final with three different clubs, after Ron Atkinson (Manchester United, Sheffield Wednesday and Aston Villa) and Ron Saunders (Norwich, Manchester City and Aston Villa).

  8. Postpublished at 53 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

Bryan Mbeumo gets himself into the book with a lunge on Sergio Reguilon, with the Tottenham free-kick coming to nothing.

Reguilon then becomes the first Spurs man in Mike Dean's notebook when he charges into Ivan Toney moments later.

  9. 'Aurier should be hitting the target'published at 20:55 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2021

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Great opportunity for Serge Aurier. With his ability that he has got on the ball, he should be at least hitting the target. But good play from Aurier, he wants to get in there but he should be hitting that hard and low.

  10. Postpublished at 50 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

Excellent defending from Serge Aurier, who makes a goalmouth block to get in the way of Ivan Toney's effort from six yards out.

At the other end, the ball then breaks to Aurier unmarked at the corner of the six-yard box but, rather lacking composure, he drills it over the top when Harry Kane was waiting in the middle.

  11. 'Canos and Mbeumo need to get in the game'published at 20:53 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2021

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Brentford have been good on the ball but not enough in Tottenham's penalty box. Sergi Canos and Bryan Mbeumo need to get into the game. They are the ones that can make things happen.

Josh Da Silva has had a few touches but Brentford will want him in the game more. Ivan Toney is one of the top goalscorers in the Championship, so they need to create chances but it has been difficult.

  12. Postpublished at 48 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

Sergi Canos is a very lucky lad. He got booked in the 14th minute and has just chopped down Lucas Moura.

It was mis-timed, not reckless, but you would not have argued if a yellow had been shown. Referee Mike Dean lets Canos know he is skating on the thinnest of ice and he stays on the pitch.

Everyone talks about Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva but ask any hardcore Manchester City fan and they'd say nobody would get near the King - who is Colin Bell. I was lucky enough to meet him when I joined at 14 and when I became a player I would see him all the time.

Joleon Lescott text me to tell me the news earlier and my heart sunk. I couldn't believe the news. 2020 was so horrible and now 2021 has started like this. It was such hard news for me to take. A real downer.

Mike Summerbee and Franny Lee, they were the jokers of the pack and Colin was quite shy and very humble. He had an aura about him, he was such a legend. Sometimes when someone is so great you expect them to be arrogant but he was the opposite - one of the nicest people I have ever met. Everything he did was class. We have lost a great player for Man City and a great man as well.

I didn't see him play but it has had such an impact on me. You can never forget Colin Bell. He will never be replaced, he is the king of Manchester City.

  14. Extra time and penalties still a possibilitypublished at 20:48 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2021

  17. 'Brentford are still in the tie'published at 20:38 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2021

    HT: Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's been quite comfortable for Tottenham. Brentford have played well but haven't really created any chances. It'll probably be Tottenham who are disappointed that they are not going in two goals up.

You have to give credit to David Raya, it was an outstanding save from the Brentford keeper. Brentford are still in this tie but the next goal is so important.

  18. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:33 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2021

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

And there's the whistle. Spurs lead at the break thanks to Moussa Sissoko's header from an excellent Sergio Reguilon cross.

David Raya denied Lucas Moura a second, but Brentford are still in this. Don't go anywhere.

  19. 'Great tip away from Raya'published at 44 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Brilliant save from David Raya. It's like a looping kind of header from Lucas Moura and it looks like Raya is just off his line and is going to be beaten.

He's not really the biggest goal keeper but that's why keepers work ever so hard in training, back peddling and moving their feet. Great tip away from Raya.

  20. GREAT SAVE!published at 40 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

So close to Tottenham doubling the lead. They have a corner from the left and it is met by the head of Lucas Moura and his header is heading in under the bar but David Raya, maybe a bit unsighted, shows incredible agility to reach up and behind to flick it over the top.

That has kept Brentford in the cup.
