  1. 'Great defending from Kane and Son'published at 20:28 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2021

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have been so good going forward this season that you don't notice all the work that they do in their defensive box. It's a brilliant block, great block to stop Josh Da Silva having a shot that would've hit the target.

  2. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

Josh Da Silva, who scored in the win over Newcastle in the previous round, strikes at goal but it is an absolutely brilliant block from Son Heung-min, who launches himself at it inside his own area and gets his body in the way.

Son gets a lot of praise for his work at the other end, and rightly so, but that was superb defending from the South Korean.

  3. 'Toney wants crosses into the box'published at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2021

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

That's what Ivan Toney wants, crosses into the box. That is where he is alive. If you look at most of the goals he has got this season, they are in and around that six yard box. He has got good movement and good finishing.

  4. Postpublished at 34 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

Better from Brentford. A cross from deep by Bryan Mbeumo and Ivan Toney, with 16 goals this season, does well to hold off a challenge from Davinson Sanchez and gets a diving header in at goal.

The ball loops up and would've sneaked in under the crossbar but Hugo Lloris does well to take the ball above his head to keep it out.

  5. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

Jose Mourinho will be very, very happy with how this has gone so far. They have an early goal and, in this frantic period, haven't used up too much energy to do so.

  6. Postpublished at 34 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

When Brentford don't have the ball, they just get into their shape and they let the Tottenham centre-halves, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez, have it and say 'try to break us down.'

  7. Postpublished at 32 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

As you'd expect Harry Kane and Son Heung-min link up nicely and that releases Sergio Reguilon down the left - and he's causing Brentford all sorts of problems.

This time though the ball in is not the best, far too low, and comfortably dealt with by the man at the near post.

  8. First Sissoko goal since 2019published at 30 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

  9. Spurs in controlpublished at 29 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Not too many opportunities but Spurs will be feeling pretty satisfied with matters after that goal. They are in charge and keeper Hugo Lloris has barely been troubled.

Brentord, however, are still playing their positive passing game will look to the likes of Ivan Toney to put them back in this semi-final.

  10. 'Brentford will keep playing'published at 28 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Brentford will still keep playing even though they are 1-0 down - that's how they always are. Thomas Frank will still want his players to get on the ball and try different things. They have some brilliant set-pieces.

  11. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

Brentford have actually had a greater share of possession after the opening 26 minutes, although they have not given Hugo Lloris any scares and Spurs lead on the only stat that really matters.

  12. 'One of the nicest men ever'published at 20:12 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2021

Man City and England midfielder Colin Bell dies, aged 74

Here are a few more tributes to Colin Bell, who has sadly died aged 74.

  17. 'Fantastic ball from Reguilon'published at 15 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's a fantastic ball from Sergio Reguilon and great build-up play. Reguilon just gets half a yard and he is not closed down by Bryan Mbeumo and he whips a great ball in.

Fantastic run from Moussa Sissoko but Brentford will be disappointed. Fantastic ball in and fantastic header from Sissoko.

  18. YELLOW CARD - Canos (Brentford)published at 20:01 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2021

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

Sergi Canos gets himself into the book. Sergio Reguilon is too quick and Canos slides in, but taps the ankles and sees yellow.

  19. goal

GOAL - Tottenham 1-0 Brentfordpublished at 13 mins

    Moussa Sissoko

Spurs, with their first meaningful attack, take the lead. It's a beautifully whipped in ball from the left by Sergio Reguilon, the ball goes over the head of Ethan Pinnock, and Moussa Sissoko, unmarked six yards out, plants a brilliant header past David Raya.

  20. Brentford will feel confidentpublished at 12 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Brentford

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Brentford have claimed those Premier League scalps to reach their first major semi-final so confidence will not be in short supply and they have made a very composed start.

Spurs will be firm favourites but Brentford will fancy their chances. One game semi-final - a big opportunity even if it is away from home.
