Kaushik: We Liverpool fans believed it would take someone of Mbappe's calibre to break our front three. But I guess Jota does the trick too.

lfcway: Jota has to be Best signing of the season by far in any of Europe's top league. What an impact he has had. From a transfer that no one predicted!! Brilliant!!

  2. Penalty confusion in Austriapublished at 20:22 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2020

FC Midtjylland 1-2 Ajax, Red Bull Salzburg 1-0 Bayern Munich

Ajax doubled their lead in their away game against FC Midtjylland - and it came from a rarely seen indirect free-kick inside the penalty area.

Home keeper Mikkel Andersen picked up a back pass, giving Ajax an indirect free-kick on the six-yard line. Despite the Danish side having loads of players on the line, Quincy Promes nudged it to Dusan Tadic and he lashed it into the roof of the net.

But FC Midtjylland have quickly pulled one back through Anders Dreyer, their first goal in this season's Champions League.

Bayern Munich still trail 1-0 to Red Bull Salzburg, although Serge Gnabry has had a shot cleared off the line for the Germans. Bayern also thought they had a penalty as the referee pointed to the spot.

Robert Lewandowski had the ball in place, ready to take it, before the referee looked at a VAR check on a monitor and then changed his mind.

What a masterstroke it was to sign Jota. What a start to his Liverpool career

    David

Atalanta have been playing incredibly wide and leaving lots of space all over the pitch. Its bound to be taken advantage of eventually and it has now.

    Atalanta 0-1 Liverpool

Diogo Jota is only the second player to score in his first two starts in the Champions League for Liverpool, following Robbie Keane back in 2008.

Atalanta are well in the game though, it's a fine match this and Luis Muriel tests Alisson again. The Liverpool keeper makes a hash of that, spilling it, but he recovers to sweep it up.

  6. 'What a finish from Torres'published at 20:19 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2020

    Manchester City 1-0 Olympiakos

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

That's nothing short of what Manchester City deserve - the one-two between Ferran Torres and Kevin de Bruyne. It was inch perfect from de Bruyne and the first touch from Torres takes it beyond Pape Abou Cisse and he just slots it past the on-rushing José Sa. What a finish from Torres but the first touch is everything.

    Diogo Jota (16 mins)

Just like Ferran Torres, Diogo Jota is in a rich vein of form - they can't stop scoring!

What a finish this is. Jota is slid in down the side of the Atalanta defence, he could go down under pressure from Jose Palomino but stays up and clips the most delicate of chips over the keeper and in.

Barely touched that. A feathered finish.

  8. CLOSE!published at 15 mins

    Atalanta 0-0 Liverpool

Chances at either end in a lively old start.

First Sadio Mane spins out of a challenge to thump in a rising shot which is tipped over, before at the other end Luis Muriel shoots straight at Alisson.

    Real Madrid 0-0 Inter Milan

Both sides have been sloppy so far at Real Madrid's training ground - as the sound of beeping machinery somewhere can be heard on the pitch.

Real went close twice with Samir Handanovic denying Marco Asensio and Toni Kroos.

Nicolo Barella hit the bar with a header for Inter Milan and Arturo Vidal has just fizzed a powerful first-time shot just wide.

    Ferran Torres (12 mins)

That miss didn't matter as City score seconds later. Kevin de Bruyne plays in Ferran Torres with a lovely ball, the winger's first touch is sublime and then he just calmly slides in through the keeper's legs.

  11. Three goals and a missed penaltypublished at 20:14 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2020

Red Bull Salzburg 1-0 Bayern Munich, Porto 1-0 Marseille, FC Midtjylland 0-1 Ajax

Three early goals already in the games across Europe and there could be a potential shock as Red Bull Salzburg have taken the lead against European champions Bayern Munich thanks to a low strike from Mergim Berisha.

Elsewhere, Moussa Marega put Porto 1-0 ahead against Marseille, tapping in from close range after Jesus Corona's low cross. The French side had a glorious chance to equalise as they had a penalty but ex-West Ham man Dimitri Payet sent his spot-kick over the bar.

There's also been a goal in Denmark, but for the visitors as Ajax lead 1-0 against FC Midtjylland in the other game in Manchester United's Group D, with Antony Santos scoring in the first minute.

  12. CLOSE!published at 12 mins

    Manchester City 0-0 Olympiakos

City were gifted a goal by Marseille last week and they almost get another present. Faffing about at the back from Olympiakos, Kevin de Bruyne is played in and he somehow fails to find the net.

  13. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Atalanta 0-0 Liverpool

Trent Alexander-Arnold flashes in a low cross which threatens, but a blue and black shirt stretches out a boot to turn it away. Good open game.

  14. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Manchester City 0-0 Olympiakos

Kyle Walker scored against his former club the other day and that's superb again from the right-back, skinning his man down the right and cutting it back, it's half cleared and a shot from Ferran Torres is charged down.

Torres then heads the corner wide. City well on top.

  15. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Atalanta 0-0 Liverpool

Atalanta are looking dangerous and moving the ball nicely but LIverpool's front three are really sharp too. Mo Salah almost gets in beyond.

  16. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Manchester City 0-0 Olympiakos

City work it sharply down the left, Oleks Zinchenko plays it in to the run of Phil Foden just inside the area and his dangerous ball across is well cleared.

  17. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Manchester City 0-0 Olympiakos

Pep looks to have gone woolly cardigan over a coat, which is presumably itself over a few layers. Ever-innovative.

  18. CLOSE!published at 2 min

    Atalanta 0-0 Liverpool

Well, that's why he's in! Rapid from Diogo Jota as he beat a defender to a through ball when it did not look likely at all.

He touches it into the area, slashes in a left-footed strike and it's a decent stop for Marco Sportiello.
