It's brilliant from Olivier Giroud - the ball is hanging in the air for an eternity and he gets up and attacks it. The keeper makes a great save with his feet and he manages to get back almost onto his line, the defender is on the line but Giroud gets the power on the header which is looping down to him. Frank Lampard can't believe his luck.

Paul: Rennes are a poor team. Or are we just going pretend they are better than they are to excuse Chelsea not putting this game to bed as soon as they should have?

That's all about the ball in - the Chelsea defence know Serhou Guirassy is six-yards out and it's planted on his head with such power. The Chelsea defence can't get close to him, Kurt Zouma is the wrong side of him and it lands on his head, the power of the cross. Wonderful header straight past Edouard Mendy.

What that goal means is that Chelsea will not qualify for the knockout stages tonight as things stand.

I think Chelsea would like to control the game more, keep their foot on it a bit more. The last five or 10 minutes have got a bit scrappy, that's not to say they're losing control of the game but I think they can play on the ball better and I think they know that.

A Rennes clearance is thumped straight into Cesar Azpilicueta and that's a painful one. The full-back takes a moment or two to get his breath back before play continues.

Clément Grenier is on for the final few minutes with 18-year-old France international Eduardo Camavinga making way.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed to MUTV that Paul Pogba has an ankle problem.

"His ankle has swollen up," said Solskjaer.

"He trained yesterday but said it didn't feel right."

That doesn't sound good.

A third change for Chelsea as Kai Havertz comes on, replacing Mateo Kovacic.

Superb save by Edouard Mendy as he somehow keeps out Gerzino Nyamsi's bullet header from a corner. Mendy then reacts quickly to kick the ball into his hands as Serhou Guirassy threatens to pounce.

Danger for Chelsea as they lose the ball midway inside their half and the ball is worked to Serhou Guirassy inside the box. His first touch takes him away from goal but he still gets a shot off that Edouard Mendy does well to deny at his near post.

Into the final 20 minutes and Chelsea are back controlling the ball in midfield after a positive spell from Rennes.

First changes for Chelsea as Oliver Giroud and N'Golo Kante come on for Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount.

A great assist from Mount for the goal but probably a needed change. Kante should help disrupt the Rennes attacks because they have had their moments.

Half a shout for a penalty as Tammy Abraham appears to be brought down by Gerzino Nyamsi but the referee instead awards a free kick to the hosts.

Jess, my eagle-eyed colleague, has just clocked the Rennes mascot riding around the edge of the pitch on a scooter. Just seen it myself and it is genuinely brilliant. Highlight of this half so far.

Eduardo Camavinga is neat and tidy on the ball but he takes a lot of touches in the midfield. Which is fine when it's around the opponents box but when it's around your own area you need to just get it and move it on. You're not moving the opposition if you're taking a lot of touches. Compare that to Steven Nzonzi who's next to him who just gets it and gives it.
