Southampton could certainly field some Xi of players they've sold in the last 10 years. Their current Xi are doing more than alright, of course.

A point is enough for Liverpool to qualify tonight and at the moment it's a good job. They've hit the post but since then Ajax have looked the better outfit.

Femi John Atoyebi: This chasing game isn’t just what Klopp and his players want with mounting injuries for the Liverpool side.

Joe Wedgwood: Watched Tadic live loads at Saints and always felt he was a class above them. Pleased to see him at the top and thriving now.

  3. DECENT SAVE!published at 33 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Ajax

Good hand! Caoimhin Kelleher is called into serious action for the first time as Noussair Mazraoui lets fly from range. It's a real swerver, outside of the boot job, and the Irishman makes a one-handed save to push it over.

He's less convincing coming out to mop up the cross which follows up - but the flag is up anyway.

No goals in either of our main games tonight but it's the visitors all in black on top in both games.

City are already through, of course.

Andy Robertson has had some sort of strapping re-applied and he's carrying on. If he does have to come off Liverpool will be without their first choice back four and goalkeeper.

But I'm sure nobody will mention it.

    Liverpool 0-0 Ajax

Ajax up to 65% of possession now. Not quite total football but it's a good watch. Liverpool can't get hold of the ball at the moment.

Andy Robertson is down again, he's taking his sock off. Another injury?

  7. CLOSE!published at 23 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Ajax

Ajax continue to threaten - a cross from the left is nervously poked wide by Andy Robertson. Almost an own goal.

  8. 'Clever play from Ajax'published at 20:23 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2020

    Liverpool 0-0 Ajax

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Leeds and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Positive play from Antony on the right-hand side for Ajax, darts inside Andy Robertson - Robertson has got a huge problem because David Neres just runs in behind him, he must be thinking do I stick or twist do I stay with my man or does he feed him in and cause me even more problems. He decides to let Antony get in and try and get the help from Fabinho who blazes it high and wide.

Again, clever play from Ajax where they get you into situations and almost out-number you in attacking areas.

  9. GREAT SAVE!published at 22 mins

    Porto 0-0 Manchester City

Is this another goal for Ferran Torres? No!

Great counter, City pump it down the left and free Phil Foden, he squares it for Ferran Torres but his shot is well saved. He may well have been offside actually.

    Liverpool 0-0 Ajax

Caoimhin Kelleher does now have to make a save from former Everton misfit Davy Klaasen - but the flag was up. It was a header, straight at him, but more good play from Ajax. Who haven't started shabbily at all.

  11. Postpublished at 20 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Ajax

Really nice, neat football from Ajax, they work it smartly out to the left to Antony - he cuts inside and lashes in a shot but it's never going to test Caoimhin Kelleher and soars into the Kop.

  12. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Porto 0-0 Manchester City

Ederson comes out to make a Schmeichel-style star jump block and he catches a Porto attacker - there's not much in the way of a penalty appeal though. No dramas.

City remain well on top, possession wise.

Andy Robertson seems fine now by the way. It was a dead leg.

  14. Postpublished at 15 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Ajax

We're goalless but there's no way this will end goalless. Ajax leave two against Liverpool's front three every time they're on the ball. It's bold and more than likely stupid. A good watch though.

If in doubt just punt it over the top- Ajax are caught out again as a lofted pass sends Sadio Mane away. His first touch is good and then he goes down, no foul is given against Perr Schuurs...

'Liverpool can step in against Ajax and cause problems'published at 20:12 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2020

    Liverpool 0-0 Ajax

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Leeds and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Liverpool look in control - they struggled in the first couple of minutes to deal with the one-two's in and around forward positions. Now they've got to grips with that the press is better, they've broke a couple of times and it's just given them that confidence to know that they can step in against Ajax and cause them problems.

Ajax have been their own downfall at times, causing their own problems, stepping up at the wrong times, allowing Liverpool's forwards to get in between their lines and cause problems.

  18. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Ajax

Not another injury, surely? Andy Robertson is gingerly getting up from a challenge and isn't moving too well. I think it's just a knock though.

  19. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Porto 0-0 Manchester City

Raheem Sterling has been bang on it so far, he drives into the area, tries to dive inside the last man but Malang Sarr just about makes the tackle. Phil Foden's corner is then hacked out.

    Liverpool 0-0 Ajax

Ajax were the darlings of Europe a few years back and they're so easy on the eye - but so naive as well. They turn the ball over and Liverpool could be in again. One better pass and that would have been 1-0.
