May not have been popular to get rid of Lampard, but you have to say bringing in Thomas Tuchel has been an inspired choice. Guess some owner decisions are better than others...

  2. CLOSE!published at 24 mins

    Real Madrid 0-1 Chelsea

Chelsea have got a huge chance to reach the Champions League final here, they really do. Every time they get on the ball they look dangerous, and Real look so one-paced in opposition. N'Golo Kante motors forward, the ball is pulled back and Ben Chilwell duffs a shot wide.

There must have been four Chelsea men in the area there though.

Huge start from Chelsea. You wonder if Giroud or Abraham might have a role to play here, as a target man could wreak havoc between this Madrid back 3.

But where there is Karim Benzema, there is hope.

The Real number nine picks the ball up in space, rolls the ball on to his left foot and hits a fabulous, swerving shot that beats the dive of Edouard Mendy and clips the post on its way wide.

    Sensational attempt.

You have got to credit Thomas Tuchel because it does genuinely look like this Chelsea team could win the Champions League.

Christian Pulisic is a joy to watch when he's on his game, dancing through the white shirts but his pass to Timo Werner is just overhit. I think even the most optimistic Chelsea fan wouldn't have seen this first half of the first half coming.

Aditya: Zero shots, poor passing, barely reached the opposition box. And all at home. Real Madrid channeling their inner Manchester United today

Richard: Let’s not forget Liverpool could have had a hat full against this Real team ... without the thuggery of Ramos they’re fragile.

He missed that sitter but Timo Werner is playing his part in Chelsea's start, he's on the shoulders of that jittery defence and making them sweat. He's almost in again on to another straight, long ball but this time the flag does go up.

Terry: If only we had a striker who could score regularly. Drogba, Costa or Hasselbaink would be absolutely feasting in this side.

Yep, after a year of microscopic offside calls from VAR that was miles onside from Christian Pulisic. Real just got it all wrong.

Real now with a spell of pressure but Toni Kroos' ball in is deflected into the waiting arms of Edouard Mendy.

I don't know how many times Real Madrid have played three at the back. It looks like they've never played it before because the three don't know when to pick the runners up.

It looked like two or three people played Christian Pulisic onside there and there looked to be no communication. It hasn't worked so far.

Chelsea's opening has been really, really sharp in Madrid and it's a dream start for them really. What can the hosts serve up in response?

That is a great finish and a great run in behind. The Real Madrid defence just stopped - I don't know if they were looking for the offside flag. It was a great run and he just composed himself, and sat Thibaut Courtois down.

It is poor defending, and they were like that against Liverpool, but they just weren't clinical enough.

    Christian Pulisic (14 mins)

What a start! For all that talk of Real's defensive record that's awful from the Spanish side.

Toni Rudiger is allowed to look up under no pressure and clip a ball over the top into the run of Christian Pulisic, who times it superbly. He's well onside, gets clear and faces up to Thibaut Courtois.

Courtois sends him wide but the American is able to round the keeper, keep his head and then, with two men on the line, find the back of the net.

Huge goal. Deserved goal. Away goal.

Paul: Is that Werner's Chelsea career in a nutshell? Just simply has to score there.

Josh: Werner has to score. That is guilt edge.

Such is Real's recent defensive record that you wonder if Chelsea will even get another chance half as good as that. They've started well though, the English side, as Ben Chilwell puts in a dangerous cross that hits a defender on the arm but there's no sniff of a pen.
