How Real Madrid have kept their midfield 3 of Kroos Modric and Casemiro playing so consistently for so long is remarkable. They know what they're doing when it comes to the champions league. Chelsea won't be good enough come the final whistle of the second leg.

Real let Thiago Silva have a shot from a mile out and he lets loose, the ball takes a chocking great deflection and flies wide. Worth a dig in this conditions!

Thomas Tuchel is hood down, soaked through, as Zinedine Zidane pulls his over his head.

Christian Pulisic, superb so far, is booked for chopping Marcelo.

Aditya: If Zidane doesn't shake things up and if Marcelo doesn't wake himself up, there's no way Chelsea don't score more goals tonight.

Kyle Utterson: Brilliant game and this is what the Champions league semi finals are all about. Chelsea have been superb so far they shouldn't be downhearted they have been excellent so far and great going forward. Benzema has been outstanding again for Real what a player

This game has been like a basketball match so far - end-to-end. Chelsea started brightly but Real Madrid are growing back into the game and their midfield are starting to get on top and are causing problems.

N'Golo Kante has never attacked so much, he's piling forwards at every chance. He finds Christian Pulisic, who clips in a cross and finds Timo Werner but he just can't get up to meet it properly.

Chelsea doing their best LFC impression - missing handfuls of chances only to concede against the run of play.

He'd have a case. A lot of ifs in there though - no idea who else would even be in with a shout at this stage. The Euros will have a say.

Surely if Real Madrid win the Champions League and La Liga, Benzema should be in with a shout for the Ballon d'Or.

Karim Benzema didn't actually chest that down, he juggled it on his head and then belted in. Brilliantly done.

This has been an excellent match so far. Benzema has 71 goals in the Champions League now, level with the great Raul.

That is a fantastic finish and that's why he is one of the best strikers around. He gets a lot of criticism but his goals to game ratio is superb.

Two Chelsea players went for the ball, but the touch and finish from Karim Benzema is top class. It is a proper centre forward's finish. It was devastating.

GOAL - Real Madrid 1-1 Chelseapublished at 20:29 British Summer Time 27 April 2021

    Karim Benzema (29 mins)

Finish! A proper, old-fashioned centre-forward's goal in the driving Madrid rain and Real are level.

They work a short corner, Marcelo clips the ball to the back post and Raphael Varane heads it across, Eder Militao gives it the eyebrows and Karim Benzema is able to control on his chest and bury the strike into the roof of the net.

A poor goal to concede but brilliantly taken by the maestro.

Richard: Real Madrid's wing backs seem uncomfortable with the position. Regularly too high or too deep. Leaving so much space for Chelsea's WBs or wide forwards. Flattering that Zidane tried to copy us, but he really shouldn't have.

Rob: I think it'd be fair to say Real Madrid don't look comfortable playing 3 at the back. Zidane has completely handed the impetus to Chelsea here. They need to capitalise though because it won't stay like this.

The midfield of Luka Modric, Casemiro and Toni Kroos aren't doing their jobs at the moment.

I don't know where Marcelo is playing - it's not at left wing-back. He's coming inside and not really doing anything. He's not helping Nacho, who is getting overrun.

We mentioned before the game the staggering wealth of experience in this Real XI but they look, well, old, so far tonight.

Even their youngsters are off the pace as Vinicius is booked for catching Christian Pulisic. The rain is absolutely battering down now.
