Didier Drogba would have taken the net out. I think even Mateja Kezman would have leathered that in.

Timo Werner has to score! It is a great break from Mason Mount, Luka Modric can't get anywhere near him. Werner is only four yards out, and people can say it is a good save, but he should be burying it.

He has gone with his side foot, which he should do, but he has to hit the corners.

  3. GREAT SAVE!published at 10 mins

    Real Madrid 0-0 Chelsea

Brilliant save but Chelsea should be ahead! WHAT a chance for Timo Werner!

The Blues counter, there's a surprising amount of space to drive into and Christian Pulisic's header across goal is a gem. Werner is only six yards out and slams a shot into the shins of Thibaut Courtois.

Chelsea have started ever so well. Chelsea's two midfielders have started really well and the Real Madrid midfielders can't get on the ball at the moment. Tuchel will be happy with how they've started.

He doesn't make many but that's a clanger from N'Golo Kante, playing the ball straight to a white shirt inside the penalty area. And he gets away with one.

I'm not sure I'm totally on board with that but they're not the force they were. I did El Clasico the other week and it was a bit sad really.

Josh Earl: Definitely get the feeling this Real Madrid team are there for the taking. Liverpool made them look a lot better than they are. Particularly with Ramos & Mendy missing & Hazard not yet fit enough to start.

Could he hit that?! Maybe not. Chelsea's first attack is promising as Timo Werner accelerates into a gap and finds Christian Pulisic on the right. He stands up a cross, Ben Chilwell arrives on it but decides not to try the vollley and the chance is gone in the end.

      Good from Werner.

Marcelo is playing really high already - he's not playing as a wing back really. He is tucking in sometimes too, a bit like Pep Guardiola has Joao Cancelo doing sometimes for Man City.

It does almost look like when they have possession they are playing a back four with Nacho at left-back.

As I said earlier, once Dortmund went out there weren't too many obvious choices for the neutral to win the tournament this year. But just as long as we get some good matches that's all that matters.

Marcelo looks up and plays an awful crossfield pass to precisely nobody.

Judith: As a MU fan I never want any English club to win in Europe because nobody ever wants us to win, but tonight I am getting my royal blue scarf out the bottom drawer and waving it gently.

What I've noticed already is that when Real Madrid are trying to play out from the back Chelsea are pressing high. They've got a gameplan.

There have been 48 away wins in this season's Champions League, already a new competition record. The previous record was 45 in 2002-03.Chelsea can become the first club to win more than five away matches in a single Champions Cup/Champions League campaign (excluding qualifying).

Cagey opening scenes as we expected.

Chelsea are more used to playing three at the back than Real but we shall see how they settle. They saw off Liverpool of course.

This game will look weird out of context when you see a goal back in 20 years' time.

Why was the semi-final played at a local Goals centre?

      Away!

I think Chelsea have been a bit fortunate over the last month, in one way or the other. Real Madrid to win by at least 2 goals.

I think Chelsea's approach will be similar to a usual away tie in the Champions League. I don't think you judge your style of play on the stadium or crowd - it will be the same for both legs.

Chelsea will respect Real Madrid but they definitely won't fear them.

It was already excellent but Thomas Tuchel's English has come on a load since his appointment.

What a job he has done.
