This game really should have been read a story, tucked in and be soundly snoring by now.

    Chelsea have been so profligate.

  2. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 68 mins

Chelsea 1-0 Real Madrid (Agg: 2-1)

Chelsea's first change sees Christian Pulisic replace Werner.

Can the American add a second-leg goal to go with his one in the first? It'd be a huge one if he does.

Sid Dodia: Real Madrid need some new young players to get the club back to its best. Modric, Ramos, Hazard, Kroos look out of sorts.

Ed C: Hazard having a testimonial match at the Bridge.

Another huge Chelsea chance goes begging!

Werner carries the ball through the whole Real half before finding Kante to his left. The midfielder has just Courtois to beat but fails to do so, the keeper making another fine save.

When do we start to worry that these misses will come back to haunt the Blues?

There is some life in Hazard. He collects the ball in the box and fires a low shot on target that Mendy is down to block with his legs.

Just a little heads up to Chelsea that this is far from done.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 64 mins

Chelsea 1-0 Real Madrid (Agg: 2-1)

Marco Asensio represents the first roll of the dice from Zidane. He replaces Vinicius Junior, who hasn't been able to best Chilwell on the left.

Federico Valverde also comes on, with Mendy departing.

Kicking off again. Nacho fouls Havertz and then holds him, prompting a bit of a coming together. It is a deserved yellow for the Real man.

  9. 'Casual finish'published at 21:20 British Summer Time 5 May 2021

What a big save and a brilliant chance for Kai Havertz. He was very casual with the finish. They will find that goal if keep playing like this. Chelsea have just got to be aware Real Madrid will dominate the ball more in this half. Real have got to mix it up more when they get in wide areas. They're not looking or attempting to play any crosses in to the box.

Chelsea 1-0 Real Madrid (Agg: 2-1)

    Massive save!

Courtois could well have just kept his side in the Champions League. Real are torn open, their defence parting so easily to allow Havertz to run clear from a chipped ball forward.

The German forward opts to shoot low but Courtois saves with his boot.

Chelsea should be home and dry.

  11. Postpublished at 59 mins

Chelsea 1-0 Real Madrid (Agg: 2-1)

Real look to stretch the Blues defence for pretty much the first time as a ball is threaded through for Casemiro. They really needed that to be Hazard, Vinicius or Benzema. Their more defensive-minded team-mate doesn't have the legs to get him there.

  12. Will Chelsea pay the price?published at 21:15 British Summer Time 5 May 2021

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea right on top here now but are not taking their chances. Mason Mount's was the best of all. He should have at least hit the target.

Real Madrid are second best but they are still right in this and do have that uncanny knack of finding a way.

We're edging towards the hour mark. Chelsea are managing this superbly.

Chelsea 1-0 Real Madrid (Agg: 2-1)

Eden Hazard has got to move a lot more off Jorginho. You would have thought on this stage back at his former club there would be so much excitement about him wanting to play well. He's been on the fringes of the game so far.

El Papito: Madrid look washed up. Too old to face this young Chelsea team.

This Werner flop thing. Phenomenal work rate and desire. And belief to keep getting in the positions. On the move for 90 minutes every game. Could score more, but when (not if) it comes he'll be unplayable.

Really? Come on Mendy. The big Real defender drops to the turf after getting a tiny glancing blow from a Chelsea player's hand.

They should have the next goal!

Mount is released into the box by a flick from Werner but with just Courtois to beat he fires his shot over the bar. Went for power over placement. Wrong choice.

Chelsea 1-0 Real Madrid (Agg: 2-1)

Chelsea are smelling the next goal. They are so dangerous going forward. They have got the confidence from the goal and have more confidence from the clean sheet in the first half.

You feel if they play the right delivery from set-pieces, they're too big for Real Madrid.

They do test it. Thiago Silva charges into a gap in the box to meet Chilwell's delivery, but gets his header a fraction wrong. His effort lands in the seats behind the goal.
