Timo Werner has looked good tonight. He just needs to sharpen up is final ball because he gets in some unbelievably good positions with his pace, but it's almost like he's running that fast, he can't calm down when it comes to the final ball.

How cool is Modric? He's under pressure on the edge of his own box and Cruyff turns the ball to a team-mate, who is able to run clear.

Most players wouldn't even think of it, never mind pull it off.

And now Christensen goes into the book for a late foul on Mendy.

Yet another big save from Edouard Mendy. Luka Modric is absolutely pulling the strings in there for Real Madrid. Karim Benzema would probably like that one back again, he didn't really fire it in any corner - but really good save from Mendy.

  5. YELLOW CARDpublished at 37 mins

Chelsea 1-0 Real Madrid (Agg: 2-1)

    Ramos is going to Ramos.

The Real skipper gets a yellow card for throwing Azpilicueta to the turf in the box as the visitors take a short corner.

He complains about it but he's not got a leg to stand on.

    Another massive save from Mendy!

Benzema gets free in the box to meet a cross with a strong header, but the Blues keeper sticks up a hand to push it over.

Diego Pele: Dang, Kante is now splitting defenses. What is Tuchel teaching them.

Robbie: To be honest... i actually half expected Werner to hit the bar there...

Keithmc: Surprised Werner didn't miss it.

Goalscorers and assist-makers take the headlines, but let's just take another moment to reflect on the superb work Kante did in the build-up to that goal.

The determination, the tackling and the pass to release Havertz. Top stuff.

I don't think Real Madrid will panic. They will try and spend time on the ball but they must know that any mistake, losing the next goal, and that will be costly.

That was Timo Werner's first Champions League goal in open play since September 2019, ending a run of 17 games without one.

    Timely.

How crucial will those few seconds prove to be? Edouard Mendy produces a superb save to thwart Karim Benzema at one end then a simple finish for Timo Werner at the other.

It's been so tight until now but advantage Chelsea.

Brilliant goal from Chelsea, it really, really was! Massive, massive goal. They were hanging on at times - Real Madrid have started the better of the two, but this is where Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel want to be. Great skill from Timo Werner and huge goal for Chelsea.

    Timo Werner

Lift off! This one does count!

Werner isn't going to miss this one, nodding in unchallenged from a yard out.

All the work was done by Kante and Havertz, though. The former wins the ball high up and finds the latter for a chipped effort that hits the bar before dropping for Werner to finish.

Vinny Suggs: As a football fan, it would be great to have an all English final, however I can’t help feeling it would be more fitting for a City v Madrid final...

Watching Mount now and Foden last night, dreaming of the Euros: Mount, Rice, Grealish, Foden, Kane, Sterling/Rashford. Would be some front 6. Please Gareth, be bold. That midfield would glide around the pitch.

    What a save!

Benzema uses all his power and skill to turn on the edge of the box and fire a shot that is on target but fails to find it thanks to a diving, one-handed save from Mendy.

    Brilliant.

The room that Luka Modric has got is incredible. It's something that Thomas Tuchel has to fix. He can't leave him free.

He has to play Mason Mount a little bit deeper. Chelsea are almost playing with a front three and leaving Jorginho and N'Golo Kante exposed.
