Summary

  • Aston Villa thump champions Liverpool 7-2 just hours after Tottenham hammer Man Utd 6-1

  • Anger, laughter and shock were just some of the emotions on an incredible night

  1. 'We got a performance today'published at 16:21 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

    FT: Wolves 1-0 Fulham

    Fulham

Fulham boss Scott Parker, speaking to Sky Sports: “I am delighted and proud of the team in what they produced today. They showed every facet of what a team needs to show, it has been well documented defensively in terms of conceding goals. For large parts we nullified their threat as a counter-attacking team and on the other side of it we defended as best we can.

"When you are trying to build teams and an understanding of what hard work is we as a team have been absolutely gutted at some of the goals we have conceded. The players are hurting as much as anyone they are not winning games.

"I think we got a performance today. We have had that in other games as well. We need to understand. If you could wave a magic wand or click a finger and everything would be perfect but it is not that easy. The case is hard work, keep understanding what we need to get better."

On Ademola Lookman: "You saw the boy’s quality in the time he had on the pitch. There is a directness about him, a willingness to cause problems and that is what we need. He will be a massive asset for us."

On potential transfers: "We are in the market, we are hoping to get some players in to help us. If it is not the case then this group of players will come out fighting."

  2. 'Some players are insecure'published at 16:16 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

Man Utd v Tottenham (16:30 BST)

Ex-Wales midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Is Dele Alli someone who needs an arm around him to tell him how good he is? It all depends what kind of individual you are.

I get Ian's point about Luke Shaw here, but each manager needs to know how far they can push any individual because everyone is different.

Some players need a push, some need an arm around them and some need to be told how good they are. Even though they are Premier League and international players some will still be insecure.

BBC Radio 5 Live senior football reporter

Dele Alli has come under a lot of scrutiny since the Amazon series came out. You almost wonder if Jose Mourinho is showing him that tough love in order to try and get the best out of him.

It seems that Mourinho seems to pick on a player, if you think of Luke Shaw at Old Trafford.

I'm sure Jose Mourinho is delighted that he's coming to Old Trafford with both Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min in the starting team.

  5. 'Arsenal are improving all the time'published at 16:05 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

    FT: Arsenal 2-1 Sheffield United

    Michael Brown
Former Sheff Utd and Spurs midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Arsenal are improving in a big way. They are playing a different way, a possession based style, build-up and patience. They've got the flair of Pepe to bring on, and you've got to remember they haven't used Alexandre Lacazette today.

They've got the points and they are improving all the time. It's always good to get the points before an international break too.

    Arsenal 2-1 Sheffield United

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United have lost seven consecutive league matches for only the second time in their history, with their other seven-game losing run coming between August and September 1975.

  7. 'The fight is there for Sheffield United'published at 16:01 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

    FT: Arsenal 2-1 Sheffield United

    Michael Brown
Former Sheff Utd and Spurs midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

You've got to give Sheffield United credit because at one point it looked very easy for Arsenal, but after a couple of substitutions they pushed Arsenal back.

The fight is there and Chris Wilder has to take the positives from that. They are struggling to create chances at the top end of the pitch though.

  8. Diogo Dalot joins AC Milanpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

    Man Utd v Tottenham (16:30BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

A bit of non-Edinson Cavani transfer news for Manchester United.

Young defender Diogo Dalot has joined AC Milan on loan for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old joined United in 2018 has occasionally shown glimpses of genuine talent without breaking into the starting line-up on a regular basis.

  9. 'I try to repay the boss' trust'published at 15:57 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

    Arsenal 2-1 Sheffield United

    Arsenal

Arsenal's Bukayo Saka, speaking to Sky Sports: "All the things that have happened to me. I feel blessed. I'm a happy man.

"I don't get a lot of headers but it fell perfectly for me. I told Hector what a cross it was. It is the kind of patterns we work on.

"I am trying to do my best when the boss picks me. I try to repay the trust.

"We gave so much credit to Sheffield United as they are a good side. We are happy to get the points."

  10. 'Fantastic result for Arsenal'published at 15:55 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

    FT: Arsenal 2-1 Sheffield United

    Michael Brown
Former Sheff Utd and Spurs midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Arsenal controlled possession from early on and they wore Sheffield United down with two fantastic goals and it's a fantastic result for them in the end.

Love it when clubs start the season like Fulham / West Brom - gives me hope that someone will take Derby County's unwanted 'worst Premier League points tally' record off us!

Ryan Howard: Might be an unpopular opinion, but I can see Sheffield United getting relegated. 1 goal a game last season, and 1 goal in 4 games this season. With Dean Henderson gone, they're going to struggle if they start conceding more

    Wolves 1-0 Fulham

    Woah, woah!

Ruben Neves fouls Ademola Lookman, but the on-loan Englishman then kicks out at the Wolves midfielder.

Good job he did not make contact otherwise Lookman would have been off on his debut.

    A yellow for Neves.
