    Chelsea 0-0 Southampton

Southampton, as we all know, carry a threat in attack. Danny Ings is at the forefront of that and he almost gets his first sniff of a chance. But before he can pull the trigger the ball is whipped off his toe by a man in blue.

Any optimism I felt from seeing Christian Pulisic in the team has been more than wiped out by seeing Kepa Arrizabalaga and Andreas Christensen. Really not sure what Lampard sees in Christensen.

Big fan of this Southampton kit. It's got a Peru 1970s vibe about it.

VAR remains the subject of choice on Twitter and text...

So VAR can see that Mane's arm hair is offside but it can't see that reckless tackle by Pickford? Get it in the sea.

    Dean, Northampton

That offside freeze frame isn't even the moment it left Thiago's foot! If the technology cannot be that accurate then you need a margin of 'too close to call'. See cricket.

    Huw, Cardiff

It's not VAR technology itself that's so frustrating, it's the utter inconsistency in how it's used that's ruining football. The standard of refereeing in this country needs a complete overhaul.

    Chelsea 0-0 Southampton

Southampton respond and it takes a good save from Kepa Arrizabalaga to keep them out. Theo Walcott drives with the ball to the edge of the box and offloads to Che Adams for a low shot that the home keeper saves with his boot.

    Two great saves there!

He parried the first one away and then he's up to react to the second one.

Chelsea denied twice in the opening stages in the same attack. Ben Chilwell almost makes it two from two after scoring on his debut with a low shot that Alex McCarthy pushes away. The keeper is up quickly to then block Kai Havertz's follow-up.

  13. 'The performance was top'published at 14:54 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

    Everton 2-2 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to BT Sport: "The performance was top, it was a top game and a good game for both teams. We were dominant against a side full of confidence and with a clear plan. It was probably the best away game since I was at Liverpool. I saw a really good performance. I would be more happy if we win but I wanted to see a response and see the team we were before."

On Virgil van Dijk's injury: "I didnt see it back but it took a while so obviously it wasn't too big an offside and Jordan Pickford takes him out the game. I didnt see it back I only saw it briefly. For [Jordan] Henderson's goal I didn't see offside - but it is because someone decided it."

On the result: "It is difficult in the moment. It's a massive foul on Thiago [for Richarlison's sending off] it looks not good to be honest. The game was brilliant but it's over, we got one point and that's the situation. The game was good, I loved it in so many moments how we played against such a good side."

  14. 'We want to keep our unbeaten run going'published at 14:52 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

    Everton 2-2 Liverpool

    Everton

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin speaking to BT Sport: "Yeah very strange [ending]. As you expect in a derby you have tackles flying in and it's physical. There is always a chance the referee might bring out a yellow or a red [card].

"In the end yeah [I'm happy with the point] but disappointed we didn't kick on at 1-1. We knew we'd go through spells without the ball but I've had chances where I'd back myself to put the ball away. I thought today would be the day we did it [and ended winless derby run] but it's on to the next one.

"I can't put my finger on why we came out slow, momentum was on our side but sometimes it happens. But we've made strides and got ourselves back in to the game and we had the chances to win it but we didn't take them today.

"I'm disappointed we didn't win the game and I know the fans are too. It's frustrating but in terms of the bigger picture we got a point, we take it and we keep building. We want to keep that unbeaten run going and building towards that bigger picture at the end of the season."

  15. 'It was the sort of challenge that could end a player's career'published at 14:50 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

    Everton 2-2 Liverpool

    Alex Scott
Former England and Arsenal defender on Final Score

Jordan Pickford's challenge on Virgil van Dijk should absolutely have been a red card. It was reckless, the sort of challenge that could end a player's career. He has to be sent off. It was rash - the prime example of what everyone has been saying about Pickford.

  16. 'What we have become accustomed to seeing (from Pickford)'published at 14:49 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

    Everton 2-2 Liverpool

    Jermaine Beckford
Ex-Leeds Utd striker on Final Score

The way Jordan Pickford came out to address Virgil van Dijk and try to tackle him and win the ball off him was really, really dangerous. Both his legs were quite high, one of the side of his keee cap. He was very fortunate not to be sent off. But, again, it's kind of what we have become accustomed to seeing [from Pickford].

  17. 'We were dominant against a flying side' - Klopppublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to Match of the Day: "Performance wise very, very happy. Best away game we've played here since I started managing. We gave away two goals on set-pieces after changing formation.

"We were dominant against a flying side. Different things happened today. This type of offside I didn't see in the Virgil and Pickford incident.

On the Henderson ruled-out goal: "I don't know where the line is where you can do offside.

"Yes, we should have won this game. The boys played a super game. against a side with quality and confidence. Dominating from the first second is absolutely exceptional."

On Thiago's fitness: "He at least got a proper knock in the Richarlison situation."

  20. 'We wanted to win the game - in that respect it was frustrating'published at 14:43 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

    Everton

Everton goalscorer Dominic Calvert Lewin: "As you'd expect in derbies got tackles flying in 50-50, so there's always a chance the ref might bring out a yellow or red.

"Disappointed we didn't kick on at 1-1. We knew had spells where we wouldn't have the ball. I managed to put one away but I genuinely thought it would be coming [the win], but it wasn't to be.

"I'm disappointed we didn't win the game. We wanted to win the game. In that respect it was frustrating. In terms of the bigger picture it's a point and we'll take it."
