Maguire vs Joelinton. Overpriced defender vs overpriced striker. Defender who can’t keep clean sheets vs striker who can’t score. Defender who can’t mark people vs striker who can’t find space. This is like the opposite of in boxing when you have two undefeated fighters. “One man’s 0 has got to go.”

  6. 'Great to keep momentum going'published at 19:38 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

    Manchester City

Raheem Sterling speaking with BBC Sport: "They were a difficult team to break down, really well drilled and made it difficult for us. In the end we deserved the win. We kept it tight and compact and deserved the win.

"We haven't been quite as fluent this season but in the last couple of games have shown that fluency is coming back and it's great to keep the momentum going.

"When Sergio is on the field you know there can be a goal at any moment. He is vital to help us compete on all fronts and great to have him back.

"It's only October, we have seen plenty of shock results so far, but it's a long season so we have got to stay focused and build on today's result."

  7. 'This result gives us confidence'published at 19:35 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

    Manchester City

Manchester City goalscorer Raheem Sterling speaking to Sky Sports: "We dropped points early on in the season so it was important to keep on winning.

"Coming back from the international break we knew we needed a good performance and to pick up points to kick-start the season. Today's result definitely gives us confidence."

On the goal: "I felt I was quite lucky to get on the scoresheet. It was not one of my better games but I am just grateful to be able to help the team."

On Sergio Aguero's return: "At times in the first half me and Sergio got on ball really well in the pockets in front of their defence and took up some great positions.

"It felt like we were much more fluent and able to keep possession. To have a striker to link up with was really good."

Owain Evans: So Ole sending out a clear message as ever that Van de Beek clearly wasnt his signing given he's what.. 7th choice behind Bruno, Pogba, Matic, Mctominay, Fred & Mata! Absolutely awful management since Maguire gets another game!

Mark from Stockport: Surely van de Beek with one leg in plaster would be a better choice than James in any position. James played mid week also.

Lawrence Wright: Many thanks to the BBC for displaying the United team nice and early, allowing me to go and do anything else except watch that awful team kill the club I love.

Just the one goal in that game - a rarity in this ultra-entertaining start to the season.

Crucially, still no goalless draws. Surely Newcastle and Manchester United won't let us down?

Despite the goal, Sterling felt timid tonight. He's not the same without De Bruyne.

David Luiz and Leno still playing it backwards and forwards to each other when we need to push up the field. One of the worst performances today under Arteta.

    Statistics sometimes speak for themselves.

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno is fifth in his team for completed passes in this match.

Here's another one - Arsenal haven't won a Premier League game they were losing at half time outside of London since December 2009, when they beat Liverpool 2-1.

FI BinBagJez: Just compare this Arsenal performance to the Southampton one. Saints were aggressive, brave, took a risk and pushed up the pitch. Ultimately Arsenal are drifting through the game to a loss.
