Tierney will go on to become the best left back since Ashley Cole for Arsenal. Bookmark this text.

The lack of creativity in the Arsenal midfield makes me long for a nifty player like prime Ozil. Is it time to give the German another chance?

    Kyle John, Tiverton

A lot of people seem to be mistaking us actually having some defensive shape and tactics for a change as parking the bus, guess people just like blindly spouting cliches

Riyad Mahrez cuts inside and bends an effort at goal but it is no danger for Bernd Leno, who scoops the ball up.

It is pretty even at the moment after Arsenal ended the first half strongly.

Ederson is closed down as he tries to clear but the ball deflects away for an Arsenal throw. A nervy moment for the hosts at the back.

Dave Payn: When this pandemic is over we need to get all refs/VAR in top five European leagues to officiate in each country for a few weeks at a time. It'll freshen things up and our refs won't get be so blasé knowing that Riley won't do anything about it.

Nicolas Pepe landed awkwardly after that header and needs a bit of treatment. Alexandre Lacazette warms up as precuation but looks like Pepe is good to continue.

Manchester City then attack but Phil Foden's cross is too deep and the opportunity is gone.

The wait for a goalless draw in the Premier League goes on. I can't see there just being the one goal in this either.

Manchester City could have had more but only a couple of great saves by Ederson prevented Arsenal from getting back into this.

Stuart Eccles: How is Walker's foot practically in Gabriel's face not a penalty? Anywhere else on the pitch its a free kick. Shocking reffing and VAR

Vin Joshi: With the way city have been shipping in goals, and the wayarsenal having been parking the bus, I've no doubt arteta was city's defensive coach.

Josh Earl: got to be a penalty for dangerous play by Walker, has it not?

  11. 'I don't think Maguire should be playing'published at 18:24 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

Newcastle v Man Utd (20:00 BST)

    Jermaine Beckford
Ex-Leeds Utd striker on Final Score

I'm not going to pretend to be the biggest fan of Harry Maguire because I'm not. I can see a lot of chinks in his armour. I can see a lot of weaknesses and people know how to exploit them. We have seen that multiple times this season.

I think he needs protection from himself. As a football player, if things aren't going your way, you don't want to be pulled out. You want to keep on going and hope your fortunes change. However, he's had more than enough opportunities. If I was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer I would make the decision for him.

I would take him out of the firing line for a couple of games, let him get his confidence back behind the scenes. When all the dust has settled I would ease him back in, but for the time being I don't think he should be playing.

Two big chances go begging for Arsenal. Could they have benefitted from a big signing like Cavani?

    Alex, Anglesey

Is Willian past his prime? Definitely. Frank was right to get rid. He wouldn't start for any top 10 team (in the championship!).

    Dominic Corbett, West Yorkshire

Hector Bellerin can stepover and pirouette as much as he likes but until he learns to defend he won't be worth his place in the Arsenal side.

  13. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:18 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

Gabriel fires wide from a corner on the stroke of half time. There's some Arsenal appeals for a penalty after a high boot by Kyle Walker on Gabriel, but nothing given.

    Entertaining half!

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

Good defending by Nathan Ake as he keeps up with Nicolas Pepe as the Arsenal man breaks into the box before Ake's tackle deflects the ball back onto Pepe and behind for a City goal kick.

Good spell of pressure from the visitors at the moment, though.

  15. Excellent Edersonpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

That is two superb saves from Ederson there. The second looked as though Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was offside - but he wasn't. It would have been a goal.

Of all Pep Guardiola's signings, the £35m purchase from Benfica in 2017 is one of his best for Manchester City.

Actually, looking at the replays Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looked onside to me when the ball was played through. I think VAR would have given the goal had Ederson not made another important save.

The Missing Man: I can't be the only one who keeps thinking the Mighty Manchester City are playing Chelsea.

FI: If Mourinho had set up a side to sit deep and do very little pressing he would be described as a dinosaur with out of date tactics. But Arteta is considered a thoughtful tactician

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

    Big save from Ederson!

Granit Xhaka plays a one-two with Bukayo Saka to put the latter in on goal but Ederson makes himself big to block Saka's shot.

Moments later, Ederson reacts well to deny Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang one-on-one although the flag was up for offside.

Charlie: What a shock that Sterling drops out of the England squad with an "injury" but is suddenly fit for a big Premier League game only a few days later. Happens with far too many England players.

Denham_365: I blame Bellerin. He can't keep up with Foden, wearing those tiny tight shorts

Bellerin looking like a 1980s Freddie Mercury.... and defending like him too!
