Villa have had just the one - Ross Barkley's long-range effort which never troubled Ilian Meslier.

Well, Marcelo Bielsa is taking absolutely no chances with Pascal Struijk.

Moved into midfield to replace the injured Kalvin Phillips, Struijk's foul on Jack Grealish earned him an early yellow card - and he almost went and got himself another straight after.

On comes 21-year-old Englishman Jamie Shackleton in his place.

A delightful bit of skill from Jack Grealish, who cushions a long ball up-field with the outside of his boot and knocks the ball past Stuart Dallas.

Robin Koch is there to cover and deny Grealish the chance to finish off a great bit of play.

It's a poor corner and Leeds look ready to spring an immediate counter.

Their attempts are foiled, however, and the in-form Ross Barkley is able to try his luck from distance.

It's well-struck, but it was never troubling Illan Meslier.

The Leeds pressure continues, and it's all coming down the left-hand side with Ezgjan Alioski and Jack Harrison causing Matty Cash a real headache.

You have to be so impressed with the recruitment at Aston Villa. Exciting times and you can't quite believe it. It's just a shame the fans aren't here to see it. I can only imagine what the atmosphere would have been like.

Pascal Struijk needs to be very, very careful here.

The 21-year-old is walking a fine line following his early booking but almost immediately commits another foul.

There's no quick-fire second yellow, but he won't be allowed too many of those over the next 80 minutes...

Aston Villa have everyone in their own half to weather this early Leeds United pressure.

Dean Smith's side wrestle the ball back and Jack Grealish is fouled but an advantage is initially played before Paul Tierney goes back to book Pascal Struijk for that challenge.

It was a warning for Villa. A great, deep cross and Patrick Bamford was quite close with a difficult header. A good start for Leeds.

The visitors have started much the brighter at Villa Park, knitting passes together nicely and squeezing the ball as soon as possession is lost.

Patrick Bamford was unable to make it count with that header but his side look the most likely to create further chances so far.

Jack Harrison does brilliantly to beat his man on the left and allows Ezgjan Alioski to whip in an excellent cross to Patrick Bamford who sends a swooping header narrowly wide.

Aston Villa earn a throw-in in the Leeds half to begin the game but Leeds are all over the loose ball.

They 're not giving Villa a moments rest in the opening stages and work it nicely up-field themselves, but Jack Harrison's cross is headed out.

A realistic finish for Villa - and the problem is we all get greedy - is to progress from last season and get towards the middle and that will be a really good season.
