Aston Villa v Leeds United (20:00 BST)

It looks a clear and crisp October night for this one as the players go through their final sprints and drills before heading back to the changing rooms for a final team-talk.

Perfect conditions for it - and less than 10 minutes to wait!

  3. 'The top six is going to look familiar'published at 19:48 British Summer Time 23 October 2020

Aston Villa v Leeds United (20:00 BST)

    Jermaine Jenas
Ex-Tottenham and Newcastle midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

I think come the end of the season the top six is going to look very familiar.

The teams who will play in Europe have big squads - the Tottenham squad [in the Europa League last night] was ridiculous - they can rotate their teams.

A lot of these clubs will treat the FA Cup like the League Cup and will manage their teams.

  4. 'I fancy Leeds here'published at 19:45 British Summer Time 23 October 2020

Aston Villa v Leeds United (20:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

Villa are going great guns, with four wins out of four in the Premier League so far. It's not just been their results that have been impressive, because they have been playing well too.

But I just fancy Leeds here. I watched them against Wolves on Monday and, although they ended up being beaten, it is clear already this season that, even if they are not playing well, they are competitive and they will give everyone a good game.

Kalvin Phillips is out injured, which is a blow to Leeds because he covers acres and acres for them. But you won't see anything different from them on Friday - they won't change the way they play because one of their better players is out.

    Lawro's prediction: 1-2

  6. Villa aim for nine unbeatenpublished at 19:42 British Summer Time 23 October 2020

Aston Villa v Leeds United (20:00 BST)

Aston Villa are looking to make it nine Premier League games unbeaten tonight, while five straight wins in the competition would equal their record set in 1996 and last matched in 1998.

  7. 'Can Villa capitalise on Leeds' reshuffled defence?'published at 19:39 British Summer Time 23 October 2020

Aston Villa v Leeds United (20:00 BST)

    Michael Brown
Former Sheff Utd and Spurs midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

The last time I was at Villa Park the worry was on towards the end of last season, but the recruitment has been brilliant and they have got stronger.

Leeds have done so well as well. Exciting football, they always want to attack, this should be a really good game.

Can Villa capitalise on Leeds' weakness at the moment - their defence?

  8. 'Chance to go top is exciting'published at 19:37 British Summer Time 23 October 2020

Aston Villa v Leeds United (20:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith, speaking to BT Sport: "We've got players who are pushing which is good but the performances on the pitch have been excellent. It is hard to leave anyone out. Consistency breeds confidence.

"We have to have the same mentality as the first few games. They are one of the hardest working and fittest teams in the league. We need to match that but also show what we are about."

On potentially going top: "It is exciting but it is still three points. Leeds have played Liverpool and Manchester City and have pushed them close so we need to be at our best."

Tom Sharpe: Genuinely worried for Leeds tonight with that statement from Klich, pressing high against Villa has already proven to provoke a bloodbath this season, if this goes badly for them we could be seeing another Villa vs Liverpool.

Simon Atkins: I think the result most befitting the complete ridiculousness of this season would be Villa losing by 3. What I think will happen is an embarrassment for Leeds on par with Liverpool in the last Villa game.

  10. 'Phillips will be missed'published at 19:32 British Summer Time 23 October 2020

Aston Villa v Leeds United (20:00 BST)

    Leeds United

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa, speaking to BT Sport: "Of course we would prefer if Phillips was here with us as he is a regular starter. He will be missed.

"We always try to attack in numbers. We will do as we always do and try to create as many chances as possible.

"In every game it is important to get three points and today is no different."

This is the first meeting between Aston Villa and Leeds since a rather eventful 1-1 draw in the Championship at Elland Road in April 2019.

In a bizarre second-half spell, hosts Leeds went ahead but then allowed Villa to immediately equalise uncontested from kick-off after Mateusz Klich's contentious opening goal.

Klich played on despite players from both sides stopping for an injury to Villa's Jonathan Kodjia, leading to Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa demanding his side allow Villa a walk-in goal.

    No hard feelings?

  14. 'We come to dominate and to win'published at 19:22 British Summer Time 23 October 2020

Aston Villa v Leeds United (20:00 BST)

    Leeds United

Leeds midfielder Mateusz Klich, speaking to BT Sport: "We lost the last game but we have good memories of last time here (Leeds won 3-2 with an injury-time goal). We know Aston Villa have had a great start but so have we. We showed we can play good football. We come to try to dominate and to win the game.

"We are going to press high and try to win the ball and score goals. Aston Villa have not conceded many but now is the time to change that."

  15. Postpublished at 19:20 British Summer Time 23 October 2020

It's three clean sheets in four Premier League appearances for Emiliano Martinez in goal for Aston Villa, by the way.

In case you forgot, only bottom-placed Norwich City conceded more goals in the Premier League than Aston Villa last season.

Not a bad start at all.

  16. 'We are just focused on beating Leeds'published at 19:15 British Summer Time 23 October 2020

Aston Villa v Leeds United (20:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, speaking to BT Sport: "We had a great start. We knew the quality of the team. We couldn't have started better. I know Bielsa and his teams and how they play, so it is going to be a tough one.

"My team-mates and everyone welcomed me with open arms from day one. I am really happy here.

"Everyone is really focused. We are not talking about top of the league, just beating Leeds. The ambition of everyone at the club is really good."

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith said this week that Ross Barkley has "made a big impact" at the club.

"The fact we've gone out and managed to entice that calibre of player into the squad has certainly gone down well in the dressing room and with our staff and fans as well.

"He's not played the amount of minutes he's wanted to [at Chelsea]. His job now is to produce performances for Aston Villa that take the eye of Gareth Southgate and get him back into the England squad."
