  1. Barkley's flying startpublished at 19:05 British Summer Time 23 October 2020

Aston Villa v Leeds United (20:00 BST)

Ross Barkley has quickly settled in to his rhythm following his season-long loan move from Chelsea to Villa Park.

The England midfielder has scored against Liverpool and Leicester in his two Premier League games for Aston Villa so far - and has three goals in his last three games having scored in Chelsea's EFL Cup victory over Barnsley prior to his move.

Will he be able to add to that run tonight?

With a largely-fit squad from which to pick, Aston Villa boss Dean Smith understandably keeps faith with the side that made it four wins from four at Leicester last time out.

Keinan Davis returns to the bench after overcoming a calf problem.

Aston Villa XI: Martinez, Cash, Targett, Konsa, Mings, Douglas Luiz, McGinn, Barkley, Grealish, Trezeguet, Watkins.

The big team news for Leeds is the absence of midfielder Kalvin Phillips, which has prompted a reshuffle at the back. Pascal Struijk - who played in his more natural role of centre-back against Wolves - deputises at number four, as he did for a handful of games at the end of last season.

Their problems are compounded by the absence of captain Liam Cooper and fellow centre-back Diego Llorente, meaning Luke Ayling will likely move into the middle, with Stuart Dallas at right-back and Ezgjan Alioski on the left.

Leeds XI: Meslier, Dallas, Ayling, Koch, Alioski, Struijk, Klich, Rodrigo, Costa, Harrison, Bamford.

  5. Leeds' Phillips blowpublished at 18:56 British Summer Time 23 October 2020

Leeds and England midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a shoulder injury he sustained in Leeds' 1-0 Premier League home defeat by Wolves on Monday.

Phillips has broken into the England team this year, winning four caps to date, after helping Leeds to promotion from the Championship last season.

It's a big blow for Marcelo Bielsa, though a consolation is Phillips will not require surgery on the injury.

Aston Villa v Leeds United (20:00 BST)

Two wins and two defeats from five games sees promoted Leeds begin the weekend smack in the middle of the table.

A win by any margin tonight would take them above defending champions Liverpool and into third place, however.

It's early days, of course, but what a start that would represent as Marcelo Bielsa first and foremost looks to guide Leeds to safety on the club's long-awaited top-flight return.

  7. 'Our feet are firmly on the ground'published at 18:48 British Summer Time 23 October 2020

Aston Villa v Leeds United (20:00 BST)

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith says his players are forcing themselves to keep their feet "firmly on the ground" after winning their opening four Premier League games.

Though they could go top this evening, Smith isn't getting carried away following last season's relegation fight.

"To come through those with maximum points certainly exceeds expectations," Smith said.

"Sheffield United, Fulham and ourselves would have looked at those opening two games and seen an opportunity to pick up points. We managed to win both of them and then you go into Liverpool and Leicester, who are both top-five teams.

"Our feet are firmly on the ground because, if you're off it at any stage in the league, you can get a bloody nose very quickly."

  8. Going top?published at 18:44 British Summer Time 23 October 2020

Aston Villa v Leeds United (20:00 BST)

It sounds simple enough for the home side tonight.

Avoid defeat and Aston Villa can end the day top of the Premier League table for the first time since 2011.

Four straight wins so far also mean Villa have the chance to win five consecutive matches at the start of a season for the first time in their history.

Your now-weekly reminder that this start comes after they escaped relegation to the Championship by a single point on the final day of last season.

  12. Keep the goals comingpublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 23 October 2020

Aston Villa v Leeds United (20:00 BST)

Aston Villa and Leeds United meet at Villa Park this evening to begin the latest offering of Premier League fixtures - and we can only hope round six brings us more of the same after a largely thrilling start to the 2020-21 campaign.

After 47 games, the first goalless draw of the season was recorded on Monday evening, bringing an end to the longest ever wait for a 0-0 at the start of a Premier League season.

That was followed by Leeds' 1-0 defeat by Wolves - yet the competition is still averaging over three goals per game.

So, in their first Premier League meeting since February 2004, can Villa and Leeds get things back on track?
