Steven Gerrard's side can extend that advantage to nine points next weekend when they visit Kilmarnock since Celtic will be involved in a delayed Scottish Cup semi-final with Aberdeen.

The second half won't live long in the memory but it's job done and another clean sheet for Steven Gerrard's men.

Ryan Jack sends Matej Poplatnik up in the air with a very aggressive challenge on the touchline and the Rangers midfielder can have no complaints about that booking.

Jordan Jones is in behind the visitors' defence and racing in on goal but Nicky Devlin manages to keep up and puts in a strong sliding tackle to stop the Rangers winger in his tracks.

Livingston striker Jay Emmanuel-Thomas trudges off to be replaced by Matej Poplatnik.

Emmanuel-Thomas is a big unit but he didn't really cause the home defence any problems.

Rangers are just a few minutes away from a 13th clean sheet of the season. Not bad at all from 16 outings.

Rangers 2-0 Livingston

Former Rangers player Jason Holt takes a sore one flush in the face as Calvin Bassey toe-ends an attempted clearance right at him.

Two more changes for Rangers as Scott Arfield and Cedric Itten take over from Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo.

Livingston replacement Alan Forrest finds room for a shot as he cuts into the penalty area from the left but the angled effort is weak and Allan McGregor gets down to cut it out.

It's all a bit drab at the moment. Steven Gerrard might want to see a bit more zip from his team, who are kind of going through the motions with their two-goal cushion.

Livingston have been putting up a much improved fight since the interval though.

Kemar Roofe is on for Rangers, taking the place of Jermain Defoe up front.

Roofe should be full of confidence after his stunning, long-range goal in Liege on Thursday.

Scott Pittman does well to get to a cross before Connor Goldson since he is giving away quite a bit of height in that contest, but the Livingston midfielder can only skew a header wide of the target.

Ryan Kent scoops an inviting, angled cross in from the left but the ball skips up off the turf and just evades Rangers skipper James Tavernier at the back post.

Rangers have taken their foot off the gas a bit here, with no sign of their first-half fluency yet.

Now Livingston win a free kick in a central location 22 yards out. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has a pop but it's a terrible effort from the big striker, sailing into the empty Broomloan Stand.

A couple of corners for Livingston but both are repelled by the home defence.
