    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovakia

George Saville is urged to shoot when he picks the ball up in space in the middle. He's a long way out and he gets it all wrong.

It flies harmlessly wide of the left post.

Jonny Evans slips it through to Stuart Dallas but he slices the cross. You can hear the roar of frustration as Ian Baraclough sticks his hands in his pocket and turns around.

Conor Washington then hounds the keeper down to put pressure on Slovakia again and it earns possession back for Northern Ireland.

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovakia

Keeper Marek Rodak is flapping his arms around everywhere as Northern Ireland just keep throwing balls into the box.

It's kept alive on the left by Josh Magennis and the defending is scrappy but it's just about cleared off the backline.

Slovakia are going to be a bag of nerves this half aren't they?

That was a big goal to concede for Northern Ireland, no question. Given the calamitous nature as well, you could see how much the players were rocked.

It wasn't looking good for a while, but Ian Baraclough's men found their feet again, although creating good goalscoring chances has been a problem.

Slovakia look neat and tidy in possession but are enjoying the space afforded them by NI sitting off and looking to hit them on the break.

The good news for the home fans is that he visitors' defence looks like it could be fragile if put under pressure and the diagonal ball from right to Josh Magennis on the left could be a weapon for Northern Ireland.

Big half-time this for Baraclough. Go do your stuff, gaffer.

Slovakia are going into half time 1-0 up and they haven't done anything to earn it. Northern Ireland gave it to them on a plate.

They've threatened in small flashes but if you look at both goalkeepers, neither of them have really had anything to do.

The two number 16s have a foot race on the left but Conor Washington is always offside. As soon as he gets there, the flag is up.

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovakia

A floated ball in from Niall McGinn is contested by Josh Magennis in the six-yard box but it's well defended in the end.

McGinn then capitalises on a mistake at the back by Slovakia but he smashes it over the bar from 20 yards out.

He could have had another touch or two then. Ian Baraclough roars some instructions on the touchline.

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovakia

    John O'Neill
Former Northern Ireland defender on BBC Radio Ulster

Northern Ireland can't get round the back of Slovakia at the minute, they're not turning them at all - once you turn a defence that's where your chances will come from but they're keeping everything in front of them.

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovakia

Conor Washington is working his socks off! He's pressing and putting the Slovak defence under pressure.

Milan Skriniar is his latest victim. It's hastily passed back to the keeper, who honks it out for a throw-in.

In the end, Marek Hamsik does well to scoop it away but Jonny Evans is soon in possession again.

  18. Postpublished at 41 mins

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovakia

It's gone a bit scrappy now. Jamal Lewis and Steven Davis battle to win it back on the left (there's a big roar from the home fans behind them) and it's eventually spread over to Paddy McNair on the right.

Stuart Dallas is picked out in the middle and he's invited to shoot from distance. He does but he's dragged it well wide.

  19. Big job for a small crowdpublished at 20:23 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2020

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovakia

    Mark Sterling

Northern Ireland have been dragged back into many matches by the backing of a passionate home crowd.

They need a dig-out tonight and they only have 1,060 in the stands to help. The fans are doing all they can, but it is still very different to 18,500 singing and bouncing.

Ian Baraclough's side had started the game quite well and look to have steadied the ship a bit since the goal, but they need to start threatening. And soon.
