A let-off for Wales as Danny Ward comes for a free-kick but fails to claim the ball. It drops invitingly for a USA foot but the flag is already up for off-side. Phew.

Weston Mckennie and Konrad de la Fuente are playing some nice one-twos on the edge of the Wales box. Concerning for the home side.

Matt Miazga and John Brooks have got their hands full when they're jostling with Wales' giant striker Kieffer Moore.

For Miazga, at least, this is going better than his first appearance at the Liberty Stadium.

That was for Chelsea as they lost 1-0 to Swansea City in a 2016 Premier League match.

Miazga was substituted at half-time and never played in the Premier League for Chelsea again.

Wales' full-backs Connor Roberts and Chris Gunter are getting few chances to get forward and add some width, as they're too busy policing USA forays.

    Wales 0-0 USA

Two of USA's front three - Yunus Musah and Gio Reyna - are only 17 but they are quite a size for teenagers and aren't afraid of a challenge either.

Most football fans will remember Gio's dad Claudio playing for Man City, but I've got it on good authority his mum Danielle Egan was a very rapid winger and he seems to have inherited the pace.

Kieffer Moore gets taken out in the air by John Brooks - fair challenge I think but physical and the Cardiff man stays down for long enough to cause concern, but thankfully is up in a bit gingerly rubbing his back.

First corner chance for Wales and Harry Wilson swings in the ball from USA's left. Kieffer Moore gets his head to it at the back post but sends it a couple of feet wide.

Wales went into the game 20th in the Fifa rankings and the USA 22nd. Early signs suggest the rankings are spot on as it's pretty even.

Even though there are no fans in the Liberty Stadium there's still a proper Welsh welcome for the players from Mother Nature - yes, you've guessed it, it's tipping down with rain.

The cry from United States head coach Gregg Berhalter on the touchline is "Press! Press!"

Robert Page said beforehand that Wales expected a high press from their opponents, and they have done just that with an energetic start.

First foul of the game and it's Wales' 98-cap skipper for the night Chris Gunter who bumps over Gio Reyna on his USA debut.

  12. No jet-lag for Americanspublished at 3 mins

    Wales 0-0 USA

Twenty one of USA's match-day 23 play for European clubs, so there were few long journeys to get to the Liberty Stadium tonight and no wrestling with a big time difference.

They look pretty sharp in the early stages as well...

Wilson-Lawrence-Matondo is a great attacking threat and hopefully we can get a few goals tonight.

I didn't expect Gareth Bale to be in this game, although I thought he could have been on the bench.

I don't think Jose Mourinho's comments have had any bearing on that, I just wish he'd concentrate on managing Spurs.

Have to admit I'm very impressed with the USA's trackie tops that bear slogans across the back picked by each individual player, here's a few I've managed to pick out - love in all, be the change, end racism, for social injustice, peace, black lives matter.

  17. 'No conversation with Mourinho over Bale fitness'published at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2020

    Wales v USA (19:45 GMT)

Wales caretaker manager Robert Page has not spoken to Spurs boss Jose Mourinho about Gareth Bale's fitness, but says he won't "undo any work that's been done at club level".

Bale is not included in Page's squad this evening, with one eye surely on their two upcoming Nations League games.

Mourinho had voiced concerns about Bale playing in all three of Wales' matches during the international break and the involvement in the coaching set up of Arsenal's Albert Stuivenberg.

This is an exciting time for the United States as they usher in a new generation of bright young talents.

The average age of this squad is only 21.71, with 10 uncapped players in the group of 24.

Head coach Gregg Berhalter has sensibly been trying to keep a lid on expectations but, with the likes of Borussia Dortmund's Gio Reyna and Yunus Musah of Valencia among the teenagers in line to make their debuts tonight, you can see why there's a buzz about this team.

Add into the mix Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest, Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie and Lille forward Tim Weah - son of the legendary George Weah - and this looks like one of the most promising generations of footballers to emerge from the USA.

And that's without arguably their greatest talent of all, Christian Pulisic.

"It's a young, exciting squad," says Reyna.

"I think the future's really exciting and I'm really happy to be here."

    Wales v USA (19:45 GMT)

United States midfielder Weston McKennie says his Juventus team-mate Aaron Ramsey was disappointed to miss the opportunity to face him after pulling out of Wales squad through injury.

McKennie will, however, have the chance to face his former Schalke team-mate Rabbi Matondo.

While the United States take to the field in Wales, another great American sporting institution is in action today as golf's Masters begins at Augusta.

Ian Woosnam remains the only Welshman to win the coveted green jacket, having done so memorably in 1991.

I know what you're thinking - what's that got to do with Wales and the United States tonight?

Well, Woosnam's cousin, the late Phil Woosnam, was a former Wales international footballer who went on to manage the US in 1968.

He became a naturalised American citizen and was commissioner of the North American Soccer League from 1969 to 1982, overseeing the league's expansion and boom years which saw the likes of George Best and Pele play in the competition.
