Bit of news to bring you that broke during the first half of the Wigan game.

Sunderland have appointed former Bristol City boss Lee Johnson as their new head coach.

The 39-year-old replaces Phil Parkinson and goes straight into the thick of things for their home game against struggling Wigan.

You can read all about his appointment here.

    HT: Reading 1-0 Nottingham Forest

That's the break in Berkshire and Reading are seemingly in control.

Lucas Joao's penalty following Ryan Yates' handball on the line and subsequent red card are the difference between the two sides.

The hosts will probably feel they should be further ahead though.

  4. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:18 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2020

    Reading 1-0 Nottingham Forest

Reading pressure continues right up until the half-time whistle as a low ball from Omar Richards skims across the Forest penalty area looking for a touch at the back post.

It doesn't come though and goes behind for a goal kick.

  5. INJURY TIMEpublished at 45 mins

    Reading 1-0 Nottingham Forest

Just the one minute being added on at the end of this first half.

Yakou Meite is nearly in for a chance to make it 2-0 to Reading but Yuri Ribeiro blocks the effort behind for a corner.

  6. Postpublished at 44 mins

    Reading 1-0 Nottingham Forest

Joe Lolley sprints into space with the ball for Forest to the edge of the Reading penalty area, but he is stopped in his tracks by a great tackle by Josh Laurent.

Good round of applause too from the home fans.

  7. Postpublished at 41 mins

    Reading 1-0 Nottingham Forest

Lucas Joao creeps clear into space down Forest's left and then cuts a low ball into the six-yard box.

It nearly catches Brice Samba out at his near post and he has to quickly cling on to the ball before spilling it over his goal line.

    Reading 1-0 Nottingham Forest

Forest full-back Cyrus Christie attempts to launch a long throw into the Reading penalty area to cause some problems.

But, the hosts' back four are more than capable of handling that for the time being.

    Reading 1-0 Nottingham Forest

After that brief spell of some sort of pressure from Forest, Reading have settled into possession again quite comfortably.

Forest with two banks of four and one man in Lyle Taylor trying to plod around on his own up top.

Omar Richards is found unmarked with a header on target for the hosts but the offside was already up and it wouldn't have counted.

  10. Postpublished at 33 mins

    Reading 1-0 Nottingham Forest

Another Forest free-kick from Anthony Knockaert comes to nothing as he can't find a team-mate on his wavelength.

His floated ball into the penalty area doesn't get a touch and rather limply goes out for a Reading goal kick.

  11. Postpublished at 31 mins

    Reading 1-0 Nottingham Forest

Forest get a rare chance to play in Reading's half with a couple of set pieces.

But neither a corner from the right nor a free-kick on halfway can generate anything in terms of a chance for them.

  12. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Reading 1-0 Nottingham Forest

Ovie Ejaria, Omar Richards and then Tom Holmes all work themselves shooting opportunities for Reading, but they're either blocked or can't hit the target.

Could be a long afternon for Forest if it carries on like this.

  13. Postpublished at 26 mins

    Reading 1-0 Nottingham Forest

Forest seeing very little of the ball now that they've been forced to rejig their shape following Ryan Yates' red card.

Reading almost cueing up now to launch attacks and size up shooting chances.

  14. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Reading 1-0 Nottingham Forest

Reading full of confidence now after taking the lead.

Yakou Meite looks clean through to make it 2-0 from Michael Olise's clever diagonal ball.

But as Meite cuts back on to his left inside the penalty box, he blazes his effort well over the crossbar and into the empty seats behind.

Home fans certainly enjoyed that moment as Lucas Joao heading off to the corner of the East Stand at the Madejski Stadium to celebrate with those fortunate to be allowed in.

A tough task has seemingly got a lot tougher for Forest now.

GOAL: Reading 1-0 Nottingham Forestpublished at 16 mins

    Lucas Joao pen

Lucas Joao steps up to take the resulting penalty for Reading.

He sends Brice Samba the wrong way and that is his side ahead and also his 11th goal of this Championship season.

  17. RED CARD (Ryan Yates)published at 14 mins

    Reading 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Game-defining moment here it would seem!

Forest defender Ryan Yates is sent off for handball on the goal line.

A seemingly overhit free-kick looks simple for Brice Samba to collect under his crossbar.

But he spills it under pressure from Tom Holmes, who heads towards goal only for his effort to be blocked from going in by Yates' outstretched arm.

No hesitation from Gavin Ward to show him the red card and Forest are down to 10 men.

    Reading 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Great to hear that sound again of "wwwoooooaaaahhhh, ahhhhhh!" from supporters as a goalkeeper winds up to take a goal kick.

Brice Samba gets to reacquaint himself with that particular chant!

Lively start to this one then and the presence of a crowd certainly seems to have lifted the energy levels a touch.

At the other end, Forest almost score themselves from a set piece.

Anthony Knockaert with the left-footed inswinger and Lyle Taylor looks destined to score from close range.

But Rafael is down low and quickly to turn it behind for a corner.
