Noel Fitzpatrick: Guardiola erred in selling Sane! With him and Sterling wide and fast, they made space inside for De Bruyne et al. Now they are too narrow and too plodding

    Better from City this.

Full-back Joao Cancelo has a drive from all of 25-30 yards out but Alex McCarthy sees it all the way and can push the ball to safety.

City find room in the final third for the first time, Ilkay Gundogan slipping a pass to Kevin de Bruyne, whose low shot deflects wide.

Raheem Sterling has a first sight of goal but blazes his effort way over the bar.

Ironic cheers from the home supporters, that is lovely to hear.

    Saints kit, yes. Superb.

But am I missing something with the City one?

Two of the best kits of the 20/21 season on display. I'd happily wear either and I don't support either team.

Danny Ings pinching the ball...off Raheem Sterling in the Southampton area.

    That's what you call commitment.

Ings is one goal off 50 in the Premier League, btw.

John Stones has started really bright. First of all he got a nick on Danny Ings, stepping in front and then on Theo Walcott. He looks really, really back to his best.

Four, five Saints players come steaming in on Rodri on the halfway line, who gives the ball away.

Kevin de Bruyne has not had a touch yet.

I do think Man City haven't been the pressing side that we have seen over the last few seasons. I don't think they do it as relentlessly as they previously have.

But Southampton on the other hand, so aggressive. They don't give you anytime on the ball at all. My only issue is they do tend to dip in the second half because they can't keep that intensity up.

Ralph Hasenhuttl is known at 'The Austrian Jurgen Klopp'. You can see why, his players are on the front foot, full of energy and not giving the opposition a second to settle.

Moussa Djenepo gets a pass fed into the box but his shot is blocked by Kyle Walker.

This has been an excellent start by the Saints.

Southampton are swarming all over Ederson every time the City goalkeeper gets the ball but the Brazilian isn't one to be ruffled.

I honestly think Pep has lost the plot, leaving Aguero on the bench. If City fail to take 3 points today it could well be Thursday night football next season

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I give Southampton a very good chance today with the way that they are playing. Playing with huge confidence, scoring goals, defending when they have to.

With Manchester City, they only created the two big chances in the last moments of the game [against West Brom]. West Brom were pretty comfortable in large parts of that game. City didn’t open them up at all, really.

Man City have to improve big time but Southampton, I think they’ll fancy themselves today.

Manchester City's total of 20 points from 12 games means this is the worst start to a top-flight season of Pep Guardiola's coaching career.

Defeat today will leave them 11 points behind champions and league leaders Liverpool.

    Long way back from there.
