    Crystal Palace 0-7 Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to MOTD: "It was [an exceptional performance]. Football can be like this where your opponent has opportunities in the first half through counter-attacking. Naby Keita has not played for a while so was not totally clear. We changed it so Georginio Wijnaldum switched to that side and it was better then. We scored wonderful goals in the first half and even more so in the second half. We controlled the game and didn't let Crystal Palace back in so wonderful performance.

"We lost the ball in the wrong moments. That is why they had chances on the counter-attack. That is normal. Wilfried Zaha is a good player. Finishing-wise I will not even try. The boys can score nice goals but not always seven! Winning one times, 7-0, is nice as well."

On Roberto Firmino: "Top goals, especially his second one. It was a super goal - both were class. In this world you have to talk and speak and write every day about us. If you are in the situation you cannt be too excited about everything. The performance is quality, the character is world class. We are not worried but I understand that everybody must speak every day about football. We are calmer but that he can score goals was never in doubt obviously."

On Sadio Mane's frustration at being substituted: "100%. It is so good really. The boys accept it, it is not a problem but obviously in that moment. I was happy we could do it so early but he was not obviously! I had to make decisions. The boys accept them but sometimes they don't always like them. That is how it is."

  2. 'We are focused on what's important'published at 15:53 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2020

    Crystal Palace 0-7 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson speaking to MOTD: "It was a very good performance. We dominated for large periods and scored some brilliant goals so we're delighted with three points and the performance.

"I'm not really interested in what other people think. We are focused on what's important to us - whether that's Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup etc. It's a difficult period for everyone so we need to keep going. We have a few players coming back from injury which is important for us. Naby Keita was great today, Takumi Minamino too and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is back.

"You never quite know these days but it was nice to get on the scoresheet of course. We just need to stay consistent, keep working hard and keep the momemtum going because we've had a good week.

"All of the finishes were brilliant. Mo's [Salah] was brilliant - that last one - and Bobby's [Firmino] were brilliant. Taki's [Minamino] too. We were clinical in front of goal.

"The most important thing is three points. It's nice to win comfortably and people getting on the scoresheet but it's three points. We can't get ahead of ourselves."

I agree with Theo Walcott there. He's been fouled three or four times, yet Mike Dean was quick to give a yellow card in other areas and hasn't done anything about Walcott being fouled.

Consistency is not quite there I'm afraid today.

  5. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:47 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2020

Southampton have thrown plenty at Manchester City but the visitors have held firm with Raheem Sterling's goal the difference at the break.

Mike Dean is just getting the yellow cards out too easy. It was a wonderful turn from Ilkay Gundagon because he's so technically gifted and James Ward-Prowse just had a little nick.

    Does my head in.

  11. 'Southampton put you under pressure'published at 15:42 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2020

    Southampton 0-1 Man City

    Karen Carney
Former England and Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

If you look at all the stats, Southampton are very aggressive, they will give away foul and put you under pressure.

I saw them do it against Bruno Fernandes in the Manchester United game. Good player has time and they will go in and put a tackle in and Fernandes that day went missing or about half an hour.

So, sometimes tactically, they will be more aggressive in the central area.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 41 mins

    Southampton 0-1 Man City

    Big blow for Southampton this.

Danny Ings will play no further part and hobbles off.

On comes young Nathan Tella in his place.

    Oh no.

Saints striker Danny Ings is down and the physio is taking a look at his knee.

He had surgery on it not long ago.

  14. High intensitypublished at 15:39 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2020

    Southampton 0-1 Man City

    Karen Carney
Former England and Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

At around 60 minutes, I'm going to be really interested to see what happens because the intensity to this game is high, so it'll be 'which team will drop off?' 'Who will capitalise on the intensity drop?' Because it will happen.

  15. YELLOW CARDpublished at 38 mins

    Southampton 0-1 Man City

Saints midfielder Oriol Romeu sticks out a leg on Ferran Torres, missing the ball, catching the man and getting a yellow card from Mike Dean.

  18. 'Threat from Southampton'published at 15:36 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2020

    Southampton 0-1 Man City

    Karen Carney
Former England and Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Manchester City have dealt with Southampton really well. What they have done is move the ball really quickly, one-two touches and for the goal itself, Southampton went pressing and Ederson went 'fine, I'll just skip all the links'. But there is a threat still from this Southampton side, so you can never write them off.

  19. CLOSE!published at 35 mins

    Southampton 0-1 Man City

    Another Saints opportunity!

Jannik Vestergaard comes up for the corner and City cannot deal with him, the man mountain of a defender again meets it but can only head over the bar.

  20. CLOSE!published at 34 mins

    Southampton 0-1 Man City

    Southampton should be level.

All of the home side's attacking play is coming via the rejuvenated Theo Walcott, whipping in a cross which Che Adams somehow misses and hits John Stones before bouncing just wide of goal.
