West Brom have not really changed, Grant is on the right and Phillips in the 10 role but it is so difficult when you go down to 10. They maybe have to wait for a set piece, and stay in the game as long as possible.

I was waiting for the net to ripple! Great play from Grealish, a great run from McGinn - he's done everything right but he cannot angle it into the corner.

West Brom fan here. Livermore clear red card, no arguments there, but for VAR to be used differently for 2 leg breaking challenges in the space of 2 minutes is a farce. The tech works, the officials don’t!

It should be two and it should be game over.

Jack Grealish weaving his magic again, West Brom just cannot deal with him, pulling the ball back into the box for John McGinn to put a diving header wide from eight yards out.

  9. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 50 mins

    West Brom 0-1 Aston Villa

Bertrand Traore wants a penalty as he tangles with Grady Diangana in the box.

It looks very clumsy from the West Brom midfielder and looks like he clips the Villa forward's trailing leg but no penalty.

Even after a check by VAR.

Jack Grealish is such a joy to watch, Gareth Southgate needs to build his team around the Villa skipper for the Euros.

Grealish dances left and right, the West Brom defenders are putty in his hands, before unleashing a low drive which Sam Johnstone has to deal with at the near post.

Genuinely staggering how many 50/50 VAR decisions have gone against WBA this season without a single one going for them. Starts to make you believe in conspiracies!

VAR is checking for serious foul play. Hause's was clumsy but not intentional. Livermore's was totally reckless. Big difference.

    James, Broxbourne

That Hause tackle is so much worse than Livermore's. There is force in it and its high. How is not a red? Plus how was Martinez not sent off or at least booked for handling outside the area? Does Atkinson and VAR support Villa?

    Manchester United 6-2 Leeds United

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: "What a game of football. Unfortunately there was no crowd to watch it. This will go down as one of the great Manchester United v Leeds games.

"We had to start properly. We know we’re playing against a team with a certain style and we needed to match them physically.

"It wasn’t a bad start. Scotty showed he was a striker when he was a kid. He’s got it in him. He’s such a strong boy physically. He was a striker before so he knows where the goal is.

"Leeds play the same way whether they’re 4-0 up, 4-0 down or at 0-0. They do that every three days, every game. You have to run until the whistle goes.

"Our fitness is getting better. We were lacking that at the start of the season but now we’re looking stronger. I think the boys did fantastically well.

"It’s one third of the season gone. You can’t start talking about league positions. We’ll keep carrying on, working hard. Maybe when we get to March or April we can take a look [at the table]."

    Manchester United 6-2 Leeds United

    Leeds United

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa, speaking to Sky Sports: "In the first half we had similar chances to the ones they had but we weren’t able to score them.

"Our attacks came from combination play. They’re attacks came from us losing the ball in attacking positions. Our return was slower than their transition.

"[At half-time] we were losing by a big margin and I wanted to make the couple in midfield more competitive and make them recover the ball easier.

"We will not abandon the way we play."

  17. 'We deserved the six goals'published at 20:10 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2020

    Manchester United 6-2 Leeds United

    Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, speaking to Sky Sports: "We know Leeds' strengths and weaknesses as a team. For us it was a good game. We played really well and I thought we deserved the six goals.

"I think everybody knows Leeds are an amazing team with an amazing coach. We’ve done a lot of video analysis on them. Obviously it pays off when you get six goals.

"You just go on the pitch to do your job. You don’t want to get carried away. Every game’s a cup final for us and the manager has reiterated that to us.

"We need to get used to scoring goals at home. It’s so important to have that fortress at home.

"The athleticism we showed today was second to none. We don’t look at the table. There's no time for looking and seeing all those fixtures. We have to take games one by one and see where we end up."

It's been a good half from Villa, but Sam will be disappointed losing Livermore for three games, he could be an important player and had only just come back into the team. Villa have dominated from start to finish.
