  7. 'Keeper tried to smash Ben'published at 14:22 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2020

    FT: Leeds 1-0 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley striker Ashley Barnes to BBC Sport: "We had a few good chances, a few decisions went against us, we'll have to fight again.

"The keeper tried to smash Ben Mee, missed the ball and I put it in. I don't know why it was ruled out. There were so many decisions all day, it's frustrating.

"In the second half we were a much better team. We have got plenty more games this season."

  9. 'It's a shame I have to stand here and stay calm'published at 14:19 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2020

    FT: Leeds 1-0 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche on Match of the Day: "You can't say it's decisive because there's more to the game than refereeing decisions but it's a shame I have to stand here and try and stay calm about it, because the referee has had a massive impact today.

"Nick Pope got clear contact on the ball. VAR has been taking hours to make a decision but they don't give it a few seconds to even look at it. In my opinion, I have seen it back, two players coming together, in the middle of the pitch it is play on."

On Burnley's disallowed goal: "Ben Mee clearly has eyes for the ball, not tried to look at their keeper - their keeper comes through, knees him in the back, if a centre half does that he probably gets booked. Not only is it a penalty, we put it in the goal and he doesn't give it one second to operate.

"Ironically, it's been taking hours to make a decision and you get a really important decision and they can't look at it. The referee played a big part, but we still have to focus on our part.

"The referee will tell you what didn't happen, I have to remind them I have seen it 10 times. It doesn't seem to make much difference."

Early chance for Danny Welbeck but it's only a sniff. He runs in behind on the right and strikes it early from a tight angle. It's way over but there was nobody up with him so he had every right to have a go.

  13. 'You get a good feeling because you have had to grind it out'published at 14:14 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2020

    FT: Leeds 1-0 Burnley

    Leeds United

Leeds United goalscorer Patrick Bamford talking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Sometimes with a 1-0 win you get a good feeling because you have had to grind it out and that was the case in the second half.

"I thought they [Burnley] were brilliant in the way they played. Their style is difficult to play against, the ball is barely on the floor, but it's brilliant for us to play against that.

"It shows us what we need to do to see out a game and gives us that mental toughness. If we didn't fight like we did then we wouldn't have got three points so it was a learning experience."

On the penalty he won and scored: "I knew he [Nick Pope] had clattered me as I had a dead leg. I thought it was a penalty, you just never know with VAR."

On Burnley's disallowed goal: "There were lots of fouls that could've gone either way for both teams. As a team they [Burnley] were screaming for everything and that influences a referee, sometimes not in a positive way. I thought the referee did his job and I thought he had an alright game."

  14. 'It's more a penalty than free-kick'published at 14:13 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2020

    FT: Leeds 1-0 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley defender Ben Mee: "Frustration, decisions didn't go our way today. We started slow, didn't have the best first half but stuck in there and came out to give a good performance.

"We look at ourselves first, but we have a keeper there to do a job and he comes out and got a touch on the ball."

On Burnley's disallowed goal: "I don't know how it's a foul against me. If anything, don't give anything - it's more of a penalty than a free-kick. Barnsey put in a good finish, but I don't know what he (the referee) was doing."

  16. 'I have no clue where the game is at now'published at 14:12 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2020

    Leeds 1-0 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley manager Sean Dyche to Sky Sports: "I can't see the penalty for Leeds myself, Nick Pope gets a clear foot on it. Football is in an odd place. The one at the other end where we had a goal disallowed, it's not a foul, it can't be a foul. Ben Mee has his eyes on the ball.

"I have no clue where the game is at physically now. The lucky thing is everyone will see it, that's a bizarre incident. That can't be in the game. It should be a penalty for us - you can't run and knee someone in the back. I'm very aggrieved by that, those moments are important.

"I merely asked the referee what time he would like me in, that's it. He didn't answer me. I will be going in to ask him what he thought.

"There's not many people who agree that the game needs tidying up so at times you are a lone voice."

  19. 'We could have led by a bigger margin'published at 14:07 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2020

    FT: Leeds 1-0 Burnley

    Leeds United

Marcelo Bielsa speaking to BBC Sport: "There were two different images, the first half response to our objective and in the second half, what the opponent was proposing, it was difficult for us to avoid it. We had to show a defence with character to combat it.

"I clearly have to signal in the first half we could have been leading by a bigger margin. In the second, we could have received a goal that would have meant a draw.

"It surprised me. Normally when a team is dominated in the first half, there is usually a reaction in the second half. We came out with the idea of looking for the second goal. But the way they played the game, prevented us from playing how I wanted to play.

"They are a team, although they don't create many chances, when the do they are dangerous."

On the Burnley goal being ruled out: "Sincerely I don't know whether the calls were correct or not. I just accept the decisions of the referees. As you ask the question, it seems we have benefitted from the decision."
