Jordan Pickford, who it is fair to say has had a mixed season so far, saving his best for the Everton fans now they are in situ.

After a slow start, this game has come alive.

    Everton 1-0 Chelsea

There was a spell around 15 minutes in when this game was threatening to go the same way as the Manchester derby but that goal has really sparked things.

Chelsea have suddenly found an extra level of energy as they look to get back level before the break.

  3. Postpublished at 29 mins

    Everton 1-0 Chelsea

Gylfi Sigurdsson has scored more Premier League goals against Chelsea than he has against any other side in the competition, scoring twice against the Blues for each of the three clubs he's played for (Swansea, Tottenham, Everton).

Uncharacteristically reckless from Edouard Mendy, but it shows the aerial threat of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who managed to control a long ball to him and continue the attack before drawing the foul by Mendy.

  5. GREAT SAVE!published at 27 mins

    Everton 1-0 Chelsea

    Jordan Pickford again!

The Everton goalkeeper superbly gets his fingers to a Reece James shot after the full-back pounced on a loose ball from a corner and smashed a first-time effort through the crowd that Pickford tipped onto his post.

The shot also took a deflection on its way through, further underlining just how good a save that was.

    Everton 1-0 Chelsea

Reece James tries to force an immediate response as he drives through the middle of the Everton team and Richarlison lunges to bring him down 30 yards from goal.

James steps up with an excellent free kick but Jordan Pickford is equal to it with his first save of the game.

Ben: Noooooo, Mendy. Strange lack of judgment from him.

Word Engineer: Did that awkward fall earlier make Mendy have a concussion, that was a clumsy challenge. Very Kepa-like.

    Gylfi Sigurdsson pen

    Strokes it home!

A bad few minutes for Edouard Mendy who goes from getting winded to giving a way a penalty and then diving the wrong way as Gylfi Sigurdsson calmly rolls the ball in from the spot.

The home fans celebrate loudly, they've waited a long time to enjoy that.

Richarlison is caught by Kai Havertz midway down the left flank and Everton have a free kick.

Gylfi Sigurdsson swings the ball in but Edouard Mendy strides off his line to catch however the Chelsea goalkeeper lands awkwardly, winding himself.

He should be OK, but needs a moment.

Chelsea have dominated possession so far but Everton have looked the more threatening. Not by much, but they have had the only shot on target, as well as Yerry Mina's header over.

  12. Time for Iwobi to shine?published at 20:15 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2020

    Everton 0-0 Chelsea

It will be interesting to see how Alex Iwobi fares this evening in a freer role further forward.

The former Arsenal midfielder has filled in as a make-shift wing-back in the last few games as Everton have experimented with a 3-5-2 formation, and although defending isn't normally his strongest suit, he has performed well.

    Everton 0-0 Chelsea

Reece James plays a great ball along the edge of the box that is begging for Timo Werner to knock through the defence and burst through to score. Werner sort of tries to do the first bit but lacks conviction in what he is trying to do and he is closed out by the Everton defence.

Jared Maobe: First touch by Havertz in front of goal is so poor, with a man who looks out of confidence absolutely. Followed a completely poor corner from Mount.

    Everton 0-0 Chelsea

Everton win their first corner of the game and the camera cuts to Yerry Mina nonchalantly making his way into the box as if trying to catch the Chelsea defence unawares.

It's not exactly like walking slowly is going to make the Blues forget about him... but actually they do as he rises unmarked to head over.

  16. CLOSE!published at 8 mins

    Everton 0-0 Chelsea

Everton should do better as a lovely exchange between Gylfi Sigurdsson and Richarlison sees the latter released inside the box but he scuffs his effort at the near post and Edouard Mendy gathers comfortably.

Good start to the game, though, with both sides looking to get forward quickly.

    Everton 0-0 Chelsea

Everton, though, do look energised by the return of their fans and they are showing good determination to press the Chelsea defence.

They win a throw on the right but Alex Iwobi's backheel aimed at Dominic Calvert-Lewin inside the box is cut out and cleared.

  18. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Everton 0-0 Chelsea

An early threat from Chelsea as they break quickly and Kai Havertz has the ball on the edge of the area. He tries to slip in Reece James but there's not quite enough power allowing Ben Godfrey to close down the full-back and deflect his shot behind.
